Boldings report

Boldings report    11-11-15.

Phil Shaw [PI Boldings] is becoming a win double specialist at Boldings Pools with several doubles to his name in recent weeks, and he increased his list again this week, with victories on Monday and Wednesday. Not only did he notch up another double, but did it with the top two weights of the week.

Top weight came on the Monday open when Phil fell just short of the 100lbs barrier to win from Chestnut peg 29 with 99-6-0. Working with 12 metre pole he offered caster, up in the water for a haul of carp to 6lbs to finish over 30lbs clear of the rest.

Round at peg 39, just up from the corner, Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] presented maggot and corn, alternating between the close in line and five metres out, where carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs gave a return of 67-14-0. Opposite Bob, at peg 1 Tony Foster [PI Bold] held off Steve Owen [Monkhall] in a race for third by scaling 61-5-0, while Steve weighed 58-0-0 at peg 21.

The Wednesday match turned out to be a close run thing with Shaw winning by a two and a half pound margin. He was on Willows peg 8 and stuck with the shallow caster at 12 metre tactics which won for him on Monday. Carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs obliged to put 89-3-0 on the scales. Along at peg 5 Jeff Harston [Wrexham] went for a pellet waggler approach to fish at half depth for a net of ghost carp weighing 86-9-0. The remaining weights for the frame were not available at time of going to press.

Steve Owen [Monkhall] moved up from fourth on Monday to first on Thursday when the action switched to the Sycamore and Chestnut pools. Steve drew Sycamore peg 4 and operated with maggot to fish shallow at 12 metres, alternated with offering his bait close into the side. Carp to 6lbs homed in and at the whistle Steve had slipped the net under 79-4-0 of them.

Over at corner peg 50 Graham Roberts [PI Bold] switched between fishing shallow and on the deck with caster to finish less than 3lbs adrift of the winner, with carp to 7lbs and barbel 3lbs giving figures of 76-9-0. Dave Brown [Maver] took third from Sycamore peg 8 by weighing 67-6-0 and a Chestnut best of 48-14-0 put Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] into fourth.

Richard Davenport [Chirk] added a Saturday win to his Sunday success last week, winning from the Willows Pool this time. Shallow caster, fished at 12 metres saw Richard picking off carp and barbel, with fish of 6lbs and 3lbs adding up to 77-2-0.

On the Sycamore Pool, at peg 8, Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] opted for maggot and corn, to fish at 5 metres and close in, and found carp to 5lbs with barbel to 2lbs for a runner up 71-15-0. Steve Hall [Oswestry] was a close third on 69-3-0 at Willows peg 13 and at Sycamore 13 Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] had 65-14-0 in fourth.

Gary Morris [PI Bold] had less than a pound to spare on Sunday when his mix of carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs, caught on pellet at 6 metres, added up to 70-5-0 at Chestnut peg 32.

Opposite Gary, at peg 10, Steve Hall was in the frame again, with his shallow caster putting 69-9-0 of carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs on the scales. Top man on the Sycamore was third placed Dave Hailey [PI Bold] who had 54-13-0 from peg 49. Back on the Chestnut Steve  Owen had his third pick up of the week with 49-6-0 for fourth at peg 36.
