Boldings report

Boldings report    4-3-15.

Monday turned out to be a hard day on the Middle Pool at Boldings this week, but it led to an interesting frame, with only two pounds between first and fourth places.

Andy Buckley [Wolves] worked hard with maggot and corn at corner peg 11 to edge ahead of a tie for second place. He offered his bait at 7 metres as well as close in to the bank, to finish one fish ahead of the rest with 25-4-0 of carp to 3lbs.

Next door to the winner, at peg 10, and over in the opposite corner, at peg 1, Dave Doughty [Woodend] and Owen Boswell [Shrewsbury] could not be separated by the scales, both having 23-4-0 of carp to 3lbs. Only 2 ounces behind the runners up on 32-2-0, was Richard Duke [Middle Severn Angling] at peg 3.

What a difference a couple of days made, as on Wednesday Clive Wynne [Tricast Weston] rattled the ton mark for the second time in two weeks. Drawn number 4 on the Sycamore, Clive went to work with maggot at 5 metres, and was soon netting carp to 5lbs and skimmers to 1lb, a steady stream of which saw him build a 93-10-0 winning net.

Just along at peg 6 Tony Foster [PI Boldings] worked pellet at 5 metres and close in, but couldn’t keep up with the winner and finished with 56-11-0 of carp to 4lbs. Over in the corner at peg 50 Richard Duke made the frame again, filling third this time by scaling 40-7-0, leaving Stuart Aston [Swan] to collect 4th for his 31-4-0 from peg 21.

Tony Foster stepped up from second to first on Thursday in a tight frame. He was Larch peg 19 this time and opted for maggot down the side which brought carp to 5lbs to the net, together with small roach and skimmers which gave a level 61-0-0.

Danny Maxfield [Fosters] was on the Sycamore, at peg 49, where maggot at 5 metres and 14 metres found carp to 4lbs. At the whistle he was left needing one more fish, as his total fell just short at 59-14-0. Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] was one more fish behind in third when he scaled 57-9-0 at Larch peg 6, and not far behind third was Terry Edwards [Swan Elite] on 53-15-0 at Larch 22.

The trend of close finishes continued at the week-end, and on Saturday Andy Williams [Vespe] edged out Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] by less than 3lbs. Andy was on Chestnut peg 13 and combined maggot and corn close in, and at 5 metres, to contact carp to 6lbs, which built into a final tally of 70-15-0.

Colin worked at the same range with maggot and pellet at Sycamore 16, where carp to 5lbs gave figures of 68-5-0. Dave Lloyd [Maver] had 61-10-0 for third at Chestnut 38, and Sycamore 5 gave Josh Humphreys [ABC] 57-10-0 for 4th.

Things got even tighter on Sunday and there was less than less than half a pound between first and second on a day of cold winds and driving showers.

Peg 4 on the Sycamore came up with a winner again, this time for Terry Homer [PI Bold] who fished into the corner and at 5 metres with maggot and corn to post a level 49-0-0, which was made up with carp to 6lbs.

Over on peg 48 Gareth Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] had carp to 5lbs on his maggot bait, which was fished at 6 metres and in the margins. The smaller fish left Gareth agonizingly 7 ounces short on 48-9-0. Another Oakengates rod, Shane Rogers, was a close third on 46-9-0 at Sycamore 16, and a Chestnut best of 39-3-0 put Simon Mottram [Shrewsbury] into fourth.
