Boldings report

Boldings report    15-1-15.

On the Monday open at Boldings Pools Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] presented his pellet and maggot bait close to the island from peg 26 on the Chestnut Pool, as well as down the channel between his peg and the island to make contact with carp in the 4lbs bracket on a hard day. As the match progressed Mick established a 10lb cushion between himself and the rest of the field, ending with figures of 31-3-0.

Over at peg 9 Paul Roberts [PI Boldings] found carp to 3lbs with maggot on the 13 metre line to beat Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] to second by less than pound. Paul scaled 21-4-0, while Eric finished on 20-5-0 at peg 32.

Last weeks double winner Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] picked up fourth with 18-14-0 from peg 30.

On the Oak Pool on Wednesday maggot was the more successful bait and was employed by Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] to put together his winning 42-3-0 catch. Drawn on 22, by the island, Clive fished at 10 metres and 13 metres to find carp of around 4lbs.

At the other end of the pool Jack O’ Sullivan [Oakengates Ang Cent] worked the same bait to fish at 12 metres as well as close to the dam, and he too had carp to 4lbs in his runner up 35-8-0. In the middle of the dam, at peg 3 Jeff Harston [Tri West] had a level 31-0-0 for third, and back at the other end of the pool, Dave Cole [Bronx]was fourth from peg 24 with 29-1-0.

Stuart Aston [Swan] resisted the maggot tendency on Thursday, and stuck with pellet at Sycamore peg 13 to pull clear of a tight battle for the minor placings. Concentrating his efforts on the 8 metre line, Stuart was into carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs at a steady rate to end the match with figures of 55-1-0.

Paul Evans [PI Bold] had the best of the three following weights, and top score on the Chestnut, 46-8-0, to claim second. He was on peg 23, and fished maggot to the island, as well as along the bank into the corner to pick off carp to 5lbs. Two corner pegs on the Sycamore gave the remaining ‘framers’ with peg 4 producing 45-8-0 for Tony Woolaston [Kings] and peg 50 putting Eric Bancroft in the list again with 43-7-0.

The Acorn Pool gave some remarkable returns on a gale lashed Saturday at Boldings, with peg 10 especially giving welcome respite from the buffeting. Jamie Potts [PI Bold] made the most of drawing number 10 to offer maggot at 13 metres and alongside the bank to finish one fish of the 100lbs mark. Carp to 6lbs helped to keep Jamie ahead of the rest, but not by much as his final tally of 94-15-0 gave less than 10lbs to spare over Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling].

Andy caught carp to 5lbs on maggot at 14 metres at peg 6, matching the winner fish for fish, but the smaller average size of fish left him with 85-11-0 at the scales.

Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] took third with a level 59-0-0 from peg 2, and another Oswestry rod, Steve Hall, completed the line up from peg 8 where he scaled 46-7-0.

It was calmer on Sunday when the action switched back to the Sycamore Pool, and peg 4 featured again, coming up with a winner for Morgan Davidson [Oak Ang Cent]. Carp to 4lbs came to maggot at 16 metres for a return of 71-7-0.

Carp to 5lbs, caught on maggot at 14 metres from peg 16 added up to 60-6-0 to give Dave Brown [Maver] second, but only by 7 ounces as Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] scaled 59-15-0 at peg 24. That left Eric Bancroft to record a frame place for the third time by scaling 56-0-0 at peg 46.
