Boldings report

Boldings report 12-8-14.

Josh Humphreys [ABC Baits] followed up his winning double of last week at Boldings Pools with back to back wins on Monday and Wednesday this week.

On the Willows Pools on Monday Josh drew peg 9, which he tackled with corn and pellet on the close in line, where carp and barbel gathered to snap up the bait. Samples to 7lbs and 3lbs respectively made their way into the net to give a final weight of 129-11-0, and a winning margin of nearly 38lbs.

Along at peg 5 Steve Woodhall [Oakengates Ang Cent] switched between the 5 metre line and close, using corn and maggot, and while he had better carp, fish to 8lbs, with his barbel, he couldn’t quite keep up with the catch rate of the winner and finished on 91-14-0 in second. Over on peg 16 Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] ended the match one fish behind on 87-2-0, and at peg 11 73-5-0 gave fourth to Harry Colley [PI Boldings].

On Wednesday Josh made it four victories from four different pools by grabbing the limelight from peg 7 on the Stock Pool. A change of tactics from his previous win saw him offering maggot near the bank, a ploy which resulted in an even 128-0-0 of carp to 7lbs beating the field.

Last Wednesdays winner Matt Stobbs [Oak Ang Cent] was pegged on the Acorn, at number 10, where carp to 6lbs responded to pellet down the side, but the smaller size of his fish left him short on 119-11-0. Third also came from the Acorn when Colin Wozek [Matrix TA] scaled 96-7-0 at peg 7. Fourth went to a Middle Pool best of 92-4-0 by Dave Matson [Rod & Gun] at peg 11.

Dave Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] took on the winners mantle on the Willows on Thursday, making peg 22 a winner for the first time. Maggot fished to each side of the peg brought in some of the pools bigger barbel, samples to 4lbs, which joined carp to 7lbs on the scales to give a winning 105-0-0. Just along the bank at peg 19, Tony Foster [PI Bold] fished pellet, up in the water and close in, to net 97-5-0 of carp to 6lbs to finish second, just ahead of Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] on 96-2-0 at peg 16. Over on the other side of the pool Paul Evans [PI Bold] weighed in 82-8-0 for fourth at peg 4.

The Willows Pool gave the top weight of the week on Saturday when Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] led the way in an all ton frame. He was on peg 11 and had ghost carp to 5lbs and barbel to 4lbs on shallow pellet, which helped to build a 147-14-0 match winning net.

Peg 16 featured again, giving second to Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] a mix of carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs totalling 120-14-0 for second. Phil Foster [PI Bold] was 14 ounces behind second when he weighed 120-0-0 at peg 7, and at peg 5 Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] scaled 106-7-0 to take home 4th prize.

The weather may have been awful on Sunday, giving the competitors a rough time, but it didn’t bother the fish, which fed well on the Chestnut Pool. Match winner Kev Melville [Matrix TA] had carp to 9lbs with bream to 2lbs at peg 30, fishing shallow pellet, combined with corn down the side. When the whistle finally brought relief from the gales and the rain, Kev had netted 142-15-0 to score his win, but it was a close run thing. Round at peg 21 Paul Evans stayed on the pace catching carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs on corn and maggot, close in. When the scales settled at his peg he was only 11 ounces short of the winner to make his second frame appearance of the week.

Third went to Kel Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] at peg 18 where he scaled 127-4-0 to hold off Dave Hailey [PI Bold] on 113-11-0 at peg 13.
