Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  12-3-14.

A net of 63-3-0 from Chestnut peg 18 handed top spot to Richard Duke [BAS] in the Monday open at Boldings Pools this week. Pellet at 5 metres attracted carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs to give Richard the win.

Just along the bank, at peg 16 Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] fished maggot and pellet for a similar mix of fish, although his carp ran a little smaller, with samples to 4lbs joining bream to 2lbs in the net for figures of 54-4-0. Mick Jameson [PI Boldings] took third with the top catch from the Hawthorn Pool, 50-11-0, which came from peg 3, and at peg 7 on the same pool, Jason Nichols [Ind] had 47-12-0 in 4th.

Carp from 1lb to 4lbs, together with bream to 2lbs appeared at peg 50 on the Sycamore on Wednesday when Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] fished maggot down the shelf. At the end of the match he had put nearly 14lbs between himself and the rest of the field, finishing with 62-3-0.

The rest of the weights came from the Willows Pool, where Simon Whittle [PI Bold] led the way. He was on peg 16 and had a mix of carp and barbel to 3lbs apiece on pellet at 10 metres to weigh 48-14-0. Last weeks double winner Dave Brown [Maver Midlands] had the first of three frame finishes for this week, taking third with a level 42-0-0 from Willows 18. Tony Foster [PI Bold] completed the frame by scaling 37-13-0 at Willows 12.

Dave Brown upped the catch rate on Thursday after he drew point peg 13 on the Sycamore and opted for a maggot attack, feeding to each side of the point. The bigger carp refused to feed, but Dave was busy with fish in the 1lb to 4lbs bracket, as well as barbel to 3lbs, and only missed recording the first ton of the year by 2 ounces when the scales stopped at 99-14-0.

Adam Slade [Sedgeley] was hard on the heels of the winner, finishing exactly one pound behind on 98-14-0 at Sycamore 4. Adam also fished maggot, offering his bait up in the water, as well as into the corner for carp of a similar size to those netted by the winner, as well as bream to 3lbs.

At peg 47 Howard Williams [ Tricast Weston] wasn’t far behind the top two with his 90-4-0 and at peg 8 Mick Jameson [PI Bold] had 79-8-0 to finish things off.

Catch rates dropped on Saturday on the Sycamore with a cool easterly breeze blowing across the pool. Maggot was the favourite bait again, helping Shane Rogers |[Oakengates Ang Cent] to a 72-4-0 winning net. Fishing the bait to each side of peg 48 put Shane in touch with carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs, which fended off a strong challenge from Keith Powell [PI Bold].

Keith was over on peg 18, and fished maggot into the corner and along the side of his peg to net a mix of carp and bream to 5lbs and 3lbs respectively, to finish less than a pound behind the winner on 71-8-0. Steve Owen [Wolves] was only one fish behind the runner up when he scaled 69-4-0 at peg 8, and rounding off a tight frame, Steve Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] weighed 65-11-0 at peg 4.

A rise in water temperatures with the arrival of some warm sunshine on Sunday brought the fish onto the feed and the 100lb barrier was broken by Adam Jones [Willenhall] who enjoyed a bit of a sun trap at peg 31 on the Oak Pool. Adam opted for a pellet approach, to fish at 5 metres, alternated with working close in, and carp to 7lbs soon started to respond, to build into a 117-15-0 total.

Dave Brown completed his hat trick of placings with a runner up 93-0-0, which came to shallow fished caster and maggot at Sycamore peg 18. Just behind dave, on 92-7-0 was Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] at Oak 16 and Adam Slade was in the list again with a fourth placed 81-15-0 at Oak 11.
