Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  31-1-12.

Matt Stockton (Maver Tipton) recorded a mid-week double at Boldings Pools this week, with wins on Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday he was involved in a close battle with the in-form Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) when they drew close to each other on the Hawthorn Pool.

Matt was on peg 5 and fished pellet at 14 metres to net 45-12-0 of carp to 5lbs, while Mick fished pellet at 5 metres and 10 metres at peg 7. His carp ran a little smaller, with samples to 4lbs adding up to 44-9-0.

Over on the Oak there was another close run in to third and fourth places. At peg 3 on the middle of the dam, Alan Jones (Deggys) edged third with 39-12-0 from Clive Wynn (Tricast Weston) whose 38-10-0 came from peg 16.

Thursday saw Matt Stockton register the top weight of the week after drawing peg 4 on the Willows Pool. Opting for pellet again, he found carp to 4lbs on the 16 metre line to net 78-15-0.

At peg 3 on the Acorn John Wild (Stafford) netted carp up to 6lbs using pellet at 6 metres and close in for a weight of 66-8-0 to fill the runner up spot. Third came from the Willows when Carl Foster (Preston Innov Boldings) scaled 64-6-0 at peg 5 and an Oak Pool top weight of 59-4-0 saw Dave Hailey (PI Bold) into 4th.

Mick Jameson added a first to his mid-week second on Saturday, picking up maximum Preston League points with his second successive Saturday win, and moving to the top of the January points list.

Fishing pellet close in and at 8 metres at peg 11 on the Beech put carp from 1lb to 4lbs on the scales to give a 44-7-0 winner.

Clive Wynn framed again, taking second this time. He used similar tactics to the winner, and had a similar stamp of fish at Beech 26 to scale 41-15-0.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) continued his late charge up the Preston League table, moving to within 2 points of the leader by finishing third with 41-5-0 from Hawthorn peg 7. Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) claimed 4th when he weighed in 37-10-0 at Hawthorn 3.

Clive Wynn saved his best for last when his third frame appearance of the week was in top spot on Sunday. He drew Oak peg 18, at the back of the island, and fished pellet towards the island, as well as in the nearside margins, and topped the 50lb mark on a day when the temperature was down to minus 4 degrees. Carp to 5lbs made up Clive’s 50-1-0.

Colin Reynolds scored what proved to be a crucial second place when he recorded a Beech best of 45-13-0, which came to pellet at 10 metres and close in.

Kevin Melville (Maver Total Angling) had 37-1-0 at Beech 22 for third and Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) was just behind him on 36-14-0 at Beech 5.

That runner up spot pushed Colin Reynolds Preston points total for the month to 20, making him the January Champion. Mick Jameson was left to share second with Pete Ricketts, both having 17 points.
