Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 7/4/10.

With Easter now behind us we can hopefully begin to see the weather showing a steady improvement, but the wind was still bitterly cold for much of last week-end, and if you had been with me in Scotland in the middle of last week, you would have found the blizzard conditions anything but spring like. Still, match weights are gradually climbing at most venues, and Boldings provided another ton up catch, this time for Carl Foster (OB Wolves).

Carl drew peg 13 on the Hawthorn Pool on the Monday open, which he attacked with pellet at 5 metres, and corn in the side to haul out carp to 7lbs on his way to 108-4-0. which put him 30lbs clear of Nick Powell (OB Wolves). Nick was on the other side of the pool on peg 3 and had fish on pellet at 10 metres, and close in corn, finishing on 78-1-0. Third went to Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) on 51-11-0 at peg 5.

It was colder and a good deal windier on Wednesday, when Alan Jones (Deggys) set about catching carp to 6lbs at peg 11 on the Middle Pool, using pellet at 5 metres and close in, to end the day on 78-14-0.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) also fished pellet, taking fish at 8 metres and close in for 61-9-0 at Hawthorn 11 to finish second. Phil Foster (OBW) scaled 39-10-0 at Middle peg 5 for third.

Eric Bancroft was back in the frame on Thursday, this time claiming top spot from peg 48 on the Sycamore. He included bream to 4lbs with carp to 6lbs in his 60-1-0 winner, the fish coming to maggot at 7 metres, and in the margins.

John Wild (Stafford) was on corner peg 16 and had all small carp on pellet for 45-12-0, which gave him the runner up prize. Perry Dalgarno (MS Total Angling) picked up third thanks to 40-13-0 from Sycamore 34 and Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) had a level 38-0-0 for 4th at peg 36.

Good Friday was a good day for Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) as he topped a tight frame from peg 18 on the Beech. Alternating shallow pellet in open water with the inside line Kevin found carp to 5lbs for 42-3-0, which gave him a 1lb advantage over Ed Turner (OBW). Ed was on Beech 11 and he also had carp to 5lbs on pellet, fished at 5 metres and 8 metres for figures on 41-2-0. Nige Clarke (RAF Trabucco) had the top weight from the Oak to finish third, his 38-4-0 coming from peg 22, and back on the Beech Steve Roberts was 4th again, this time with 34-5-0.

Having recorded two fourth places, Steve Roberts moved up a gear on Saturday to finish 10lbs clear of the field when he scaled 65-3-0 at Sycamore 46. Fishing maggot to each side of the peg had carp to 7lbs dropping in the net for Steve’s victory.

Up at the other end of the Sycamore Ken Humphries (Morgans) fished maggot at 7 metres and close in at peg 30 for a level 55-0-0 which gave him second. Sam Rushden (Fox Tipton) led the way on the Chestnut with 51-3-0 at peg 26 to finish third overall, and a Larch best of 51-2-0 from peg 4 saw Carl Stringer (Oak Ang Cent) into 4th.

The Willows Pool proved best on Easter Sunday, with adjacent pegs giving the top two weights of the day. Darren Frost (Shimano Wales) worked pellet at 6 metres and close in at Willows 4, and caught ghosties to 4lbs to put together his 90-7-0 winner.

At peg 5 Ken Humphries filled second place again. He fished maggot at 10 metres and close in, and had bigger fish than the winner, with samples to 5lbs, but there were less of them, leaving Ken on 72-7-0.

Third man Dave Hailey (OBW) had a Sycamore top score of 69-1-0, 4th placed Jamie Langford (OBW) was best on the Larch with 65-9-0 and Josh Humphries (Morgans) took 4th with an Ash best of 60-5-0.
