Boldings Report 17/3/09

Andy Williams (Vespe) had a very successful week at Boldings Pools, with three wins, and Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) has shaken off the effects of his recent health problems to score a first and a third.

Jack Hailey (OB Wolves) started the week with a win on the Wednesday open when he narrowly beat Howard Williams (Wrexham). Jack was on peg 1 on the chestnut Pool and scaled 69-8-0, while Howard had a Sycamore best of 67-2-0 for second. Dave Barnard (R &G) netted 58-4-0 at Sycamore 13 for third with Dave Matson (R&G) on 51-8-0 taking 4th.

Andy Williams enjoyed his first victory on Thursday, when the finish was a close one again. Andy fished maggot up in the water, and corn at 7metres at peg 30 on the Chestnut, to finish on 76-11-0.

Ian Hodson (Swan JT) fished maggot, shallow at Chestnut 16, and included a carp of 20lbs in a 74-9-0 runner up.

Mel Kitson warmed up for the Saturday open with a third best 61-13-0, the top score from the Sycamore Pool, and 4th man Chris Small (Wednesbury) also took his 59-6-0 from the Sycamore.

Saturday saw Kitson record the top catch of the week, 94-8-0, to finish with over 20lbs to spare. This time he was on the Chestnut, and tackled peg 16 with corn and pellet, fished to each side of the peg.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was on the other side of the Chestnut at peg 30 and alternated fishing close in and at 8 metres with pellet to net 72-15-0. Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) led the Larch Pool catches with 68-9-0 for third, and Dave Matson had another 4th with 56-1-0 from the Chestnut.

Andy Williams was back in charge on Sunday, putting together a net of 84-1-0 at Chestnut peg 21 by fishing corn close in for carp to 4lbs.

Dave Brown (Maver) offered caster up in the water at 12 metres from peg 23 on the Beech Pool to pop 77-1-0 in the net for second, and a Sycamore top score of 70-1-0 gave Graham Roberts (OBW) third at peg 4, then back on the Beech scaled 65-6-0 for 4th.

Williams two in two days by winning the Monday Affordable open at Boldings when he drew peg 21 again, but this time on the Sycamore. No close in tactics this time though, and it was shallow fished maggot, out at 12 metres which saw Andy netting carp to 8lbs on his way to 87-8-0.

Over on the long bank of the Sycamore Chris Holmes (BAS) worked with shallow maggot at 12 metres, alternated with corn close in for 71-13-0 to claim second, ahead of Richard Lawson (Maver) on 65-15-0. Only 3 ounces behind Lawson was Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) on 65-12-0.

Simon Richardson (Maver) put a Willows best of 51-0-0 on the scales  for third and a Chestnut best of 44-4-0 saw Jason Atwell (Kingswinford) collect 4th.

Beech peg 7 proved a winner on Sunday when Nick Powell (Wolverhampton) won what turned out to be  another close encounter. Fishing pellet at 6 metres, Nick dropped 63-8-0 into the net, a catch of carp to 6lbs.

Mick Jameson was there again, adding another second to account by leading the way on the Oak, where peg 29 also featured again. Mick netted carp to 8lbs using pellet at 4 metres and 8 metres for a final total of 62-11-0.

Back on the Beech Steve Roberts (R&G) scaled 44-4-0 at peg 11 for third, then it was back to the Oak for 42-2-0 which gave Martin Harrell (Maver) 4th.

Boldings Report 4/3/09

There were two wins, one at each end of the week, for Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) at Boldings Pools this week, to add to his victories of the past two weeks. He set off on Wednesday with a 40-7-0 winner, which came from peg 21 on the Chestnut Pool. The catch consisted of all small carp, taken on pellet, fished to the island.

Terry Slater (OB Wolves) had carp to 5lbs in his runner up 37-13-0, which came to corn and pellet at peg 33 on the Sycamore. A pound behind Terry was Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) on 36-12-0 at Chestnut 26, and at Sycamore 48, Richard Lawson (Maver) had 34-3-0 for 4th.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) took over as winner in a close finish on Thursday. Shallow fished pellet at peg 16 on the Ash helped Carl to a 39-5-0 finish, with just enough carp in the 1lb to 3lb class, to stay ahead of Colin Wozak (Donnington). Colin also had carp to 3lbs, caught on corn and pellet, for 38-4-0 at Ash 18.

Along at Ash 14 Ian Hodson (Swan Jacks)finished 6 ounces better off than Graham Evason (OBW). Ian  weighed 35-13-0 and Graham had a Beech Pool best of 35-7-0. Eric Bancroft featured in the reckoning again with an Oak Pool best of 33-4-0.

John Francis (R&G) picked a win on Saturday with the best of three nets over 50lbs on the day. John fished to each side of the point at Sycamore 13 to pick up carp to 6lbs on his way to 53-3-0.

Runner up Tim Probert (Wolverhampton) was top man on the Larch Pool, taking carp to 6lbs on corn and pellet, fished to the weed bed and close in at peg 1. He finished on 50-14-0, with Dave Brown (Maver) close behind on 50-2-0, for the first of two week-end third places, both from the Willows Pool. Fourth also came from the Willows when Gary Morris (OBW) scaled 44-0-0.

Eric Bancroft rounded off the week at Boldings with the top catch, winning on Sunday with 55-1-0. This time he was on the Sycamore and fished pellet, half way down the shelf at peg 49 for carp to 5lbs.

Josh Humphries (Morgans Angling) netted an Oak Pool best of 49-4-0 at peg 29 to finish second overall, Dave Brown was third again with a Willows top score of 46-5-0 and Graham Roberts (OBW) and John Francis finished things off by sharing 4th with 40-7-0 each.
