Boldings report

SPORTS DESK.  14/5/08

Its that time of year again when the fish can be more intent on spawning than feeding, but most local venues provided some very good weights.

Boldings led the way, with ton up catches filling top spot on all of the opens, and Mike Robinson (MAP) recording the best weight of the year so far when he stormed to victory on Thursday with 155-2-0. The huge catch came from peg 13 on the Oak, where shallow fished caster had carp to 6lbs queuing up to grab the bait.

Andy Williams (Telford) put together his second ton in two weeks, but this time he had to settle for second, even though he scaled 120-2-0. Andy caught on corn, offered to each side of the point on peg 13 on the Sycamore, and his catch consisted of carp to 9lbs and bream to 4lbs.

Dave Brown (Wolves) kept up his run of form by filling third spot after weighing a level 97-0-0 at Sycamore 46, and a Chestnut top score of 87-6-0 gave Eric Bancroft 4th.

Sycamore 13 came up with another 100lb bag on Saturday, and this time it was good enough for top spot. The total was down a little on Andy Williams weight at 111-15-0, but Paul Ferguson (Goodyear) was the only man in the hundreds on the day. He also fished corn to each side of the point, and found carp to 12lbs on his way to victory.

In a reversal of the Thursday result, shallow caster was the method to come second this time, when Ian Hughes (Shimano Wales) used it for a Larch Pool best of 95-9-0, made up with carp from 1lb to 7lbs.

Andy Williams finished in the frame again, taking top weight on the Willows and third overall with 82-14-0, then it was back to the Sycamore for 4th man Brian Atwell (Telford) on 82-3-0.

Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) completed the week of big weights by claiming top spot on Sunday with 121-0-0. Fishing with his back to the Willows Pool, at peg 45 on the Sycamore, Gareth presented maggot and corn, close in to find carp to 9lbs and bream to 4lbs.

Around from the point peg which proved so productive in the previous matches, Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) turned peg 15 into a ‘framer’ with a second placed 94-1-0. Like the winner, he offered maggot and corn, close in, and he also found carp and bream.

Third man Steve Davies (Telford) was on over on the long bank, at peg 39 on the Sycamore, where he netted 87-12-0, and the Willows provided 4th again, this time for Rob Baker (Boldings) who scaled 72-6-0.
