Pellet at 5 metres and close in gave Brian a 16lbs winning margin over Tony Foster (Preston Innov Boldings). He was on point peg 7 on the Beech and alternated shallow pellet off the point with close in tactics to net a level 71-0-0, made up with carp to 7lbs.

Jeff Harston (Tricast Weston) was at corner peg 11 on the Beech and had a level 67-0-0 for third, while Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) topped the Hawthorn list with 66-1-0 to finish 4th.

On the Chestnut on Thursday John Wild (Stafford) just squeezed home in first with a one fish advantage over Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun).

John was on peg 21 at the back of the island and caught on pellet, taking fish from against the island and from the near side margins, with carp to 5lbs giving a total of 64-5-0.

Eric was just along the bank at peg 23 and used pellet and paste to tempt carp to 4lbs from the 5 metre line and from close in, finishing on 61-13-0.

Over at peg 32 Mick Keene (Tricast Weston) was exactly one pound behind second with 60-13-0 and at peg 30 Gary Morris (PI Bold) had 57-12-0 in 4th.

Saturday open honours went to Sean barber (Maver Sonubaits) in another close finish. Sean drew peg 31 on the Sycamore where a 13 metre line attack with pellet found carp to 6lbs willing to have a go, which resulted in a weight of 97-10-0.

At peg 30 on the Chestnut Dave Brown (Maver) chose a shallow caster approach and stayed in touch with the winner with carp to 7lbs coming to the net. At the whistle though he was a fish short when the scales registered 95-14-0.

On the opposite bank of the Sycamore to the winner Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) handed over 78-15-0 to the scales to fill third spot and back on the Chestnut, last weeks double winner John Francis ((R&G) scaled 67-9-0 in 4th.

The Sunday open was held on the Sycamore and went the way of Mark Lloyd (Oak Ang Cent) who was pegged with his back to the Willows Pool on peg 47. Pellet and paste accounted for Marks victory, with carp to 6lbs coming from the 5 metre line as well as close in to give figures of 64-15-0.

Peg 24 figured in the frame again, this time filling second place for Chris Hyde (Sedgeley). He had carp to 8lbs on corn and pellet to weigh 60-13-0.

A couple of pounds behind second, at peg 40 was Dave Matson (R&G) on 58-11-0 and another couple of pounds behind him was Tim Treherne (Oak Ang Cent) on 56-7-0 at peg 31.

Seven points for his second place on the league match takes Andy Bayliss-Kyte to the top of the Preston Innovations points table for October, he now has 19 points, with one match to go.  Shane Rogers and Ed Turner share second place with 15 points each.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  18-10-11.

The Monday match gave the top catch of the week again at Boldings Pools and Harry Colley (Preston Innovations Boldings) got back to winnings ways. He was drawn on corner peg 40 on the Chestnut and plundered the peg to the tune of 142-11-0 by fishing meat and maggot down the side.

Along at peg 32 Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) also caught well using corn and pellet, but dropped behind in the closing stages, finishing on 106-1-0.

In between the top two, at peg 34 Graham Evason (PI Bold) netted 73-1-0 for third and on the opposite bank Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) had 69-1-0 at peg 4.

Brian Travis (Maver Total Angling) was just one fish short of a ton up win on Wednesday with the scales settling at 98-2-0. Having pulled Hawthorn peg 13 from the bag, Brian tackled it with a shallow pellet approach for a haul of carp to 5lbs.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had the best catch from the Middle Pool to finish second, but was a long way behind the winner with a paste and pellet based catch of carp to 7lbs at peg 11.

Bob Tromans finished one place better than he did on Monday, taking third with 47-0-0 from Hawthorn 5. Carl Foster (PI Bold) was a close 4th at Middle 5 where he weighed 46-13-0.

Howard Williams (Weston Pools) had his second Thursday win in three weeks and did it with over 100lbs again when his weight at the whistle came to 103-8-0. Corn and pellet fished close in at Chestnut 4 had carp to 8lbs dropping into the net to give Howard the win.

Pete Ricketts was second again but this time he finished hard on the heels of the winner, only 2lbs adrift on 101-8-0. He was on Chestnut 30 and had carp to 9lbs with bream to 3lbs on pellet up in the water and paste at 5 metres.

Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) led the way on the Sycamore to fill third with 92-4-0 at peg 16 and Jeff Harston (Weston) scaled 90-5-0 for 4th at Sycamore 33.

John Francis (R&G) registered a week-end double with victories on Saturday and Sunday both coming from the Chestnut.

Peg 4 came up with the goods again on Saturday, with pellet at 5 metres and in the margins tempting carp to 8lbs and barbel to 2lbs giving a total of 102-4-0.

Pete Plant (Maver) used his usual shallow caster method to net 94-9-0 for second at Chestnut 32. Stuart Aston (Swan JT) found his level 74-0-0 was top on the Sycamore and 3rd overall, with another Sycamore weight, 72-4-0 giving Kevin Melville (Maver Tot Ang) 4th.

The top six all scaled over 100lbs on Sunday and three different pools gave the first three weights. John Francis was on the Chestnut again, this time at peg 37, where carp to 11lbs responded corn and pellet on the close in line for a return of 126-15-0.

Ed Turner (PI Bold) also fished corn and pellet, offering the baits to each side of peg 48 on the Sycamore, where carp to 9lbs and barbel to 2lbs came to 122-7-0.

The Willows Pool gave third to Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) when he weighed in 109-8-0 at peg 9, and at Chestnut 32 Dave Barnard (R&G) netted 108-5-0 for a close 4th.

Ed Turner now heads the October Preston League points table with 15 points Andy Bayliss-Kyte has 12 and Sean Barber is third on 11.

67-15-0 from peg 43 saw Dave Barnard (R&G) into third and 60-10-0 at peg 40 gave Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) 4th.

Top of the list on Saturday went to Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) who won from Ash peg 23. Carp to 6lbs homed in on his pellet bait, fished at 10 metres and down in the edge, to give a winning total of 86-7-0.

Top weight from the Hawthorn went to Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) who was second overall with 71-14-0. He fished corn and pellet close in and at 7 metres to find carp to 7lbs.

Dave Craggs (Maver) finished 10lbs behind Stobbs on 61-1-0 at Ash 7 and at Ash 14 Tony Foster (PI Bold) had 54-2-0.
