Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT

The weather remains changeable, which can be expected in April, but at least things are warming up generally, although the wind was back to an easterly direction on Tuesday of this week.

Saturday was probably the best day, weather-wise, but strangely, catches on most of the local venues took a downturn for the day.

Boldings gave the top returns overall, with both mid-week opens being won with over 100lbs, and the top three on Sunday all topping the ‘ton’.

Keith Miller (New Willenhall) set the trend by taking the honours on the Wednesday match with 114-9-0. His was the only frame weight to come from the Chestnut Pool, and consisted of carp to 8lbs, caught on corn and maggot. Keith found formed his catch by alternating between the close in line and out to the island at peg 21.

Martin Travis (Dorset) fished to the paddles from corner peg 1 on the Hawthorn, offering pellet, corn and maggot to pick off 79-14-0 of carp to 7lbs, which edged second for him, ahead of Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall). Pete had the top weight from the Beech, an even 78-0-0, which came from peg 19. Back on the Hawthorn, Pete Plant (Maver Midlands) collected 4th thanks to 72-1-0 at peg 3.

Its good to hear that Mark Mountford (Shifnal) is back in action and fully recovered after his kidney donation. He finished a close 5th on 70-8-0 at Beech 3.

The Chestnut came up with another ton on Thursday, but at 105lbs it was only good enough for second this time, as Richard Lawson (Maver Midlands) put together 116-14-0 using shallow fished maggot to net carp from 1lb to 6lbs at peg 29 on the Oak.

Steve Roberts (Rod & Gun) was man with 105-9-0 at peg 36 on the Chestnut, and he also caught on maggot, netting carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was on peg 16, opposite the point on the Chestnut, where 96-8-0 gave him third, with Pete Plant filling 4th again, this time with a Sycamore best of 82-3-0.

Pete Ricketts was back in the frame on Saturday, moving up from third to first after drawing peg 3 on the Ash. Shallow maggot was the top tactic again, with Pete catching carp to 7lbs on it, fished to each side of the peg for figures of 92-9-0.

Further along the same bank of the Ash, John Wild (Stafford) operated along similar lines to put 88-0-0 in the net for second. Less than a pound behind Wild was Andy Williams (Telford) with a Sycamore top score of 87-7-0 and in 4th was Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) on 81-8-0 at Sycamore 2.

Shallow fished maggot dominated again on Sunday and gave Rob Baker (Wolverhampton) the best catch of the week, 139-10-0. Drawn in the corner at peg 11 on the Beech, rob netted a succession of carp to 9lbs on his way to victory.

Pete Plant framed for the third time, moving up to second by scaling 114-6-0 at Oak peg 1, at the end of the dam, where fish from 1lb to 7lbs featured.

Dave White (Maver Midlands) was the third man to top 100lbs on the day, weighing 106-12-0 at peg 20 on the Beech. Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) completed an outstanding week at Boldings with 85-4-0 for 4th.
