Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT

Matt Stobbs (Rod & Gun) made the most of the Easter break from his teaching job and enjoyed two ton up weights at Boldings Pools this week, but only one of them was a winner.

That came on Wednesday when maggot, fished shallow at 10 metres from peg 8 on the Sycamore had the fish queuing up, with carp to 8lbs helping Matt to a final total of 100-11-0, the second time in a fortnight that he has had 100-11-0.

Two more Rod & Gun mean followed in the frame, Steve Roberts taking second from Sycamore 4 with 72-7-0 on maggot, and Mel Kitson filling third at Sycamore 2 where he scaled 66-13-0. Best on the Chestnut and 4th overall was John Trevis (Wolverhampton) on 36-7-0.

The following day Stobbs had a level 100-0-0 but was beaten by John Wild (Stafford) who recorded the top weight of the week at 107-11-0. He was on peg 9 on the Ash and netted carp to 7lbs close in on maggot. Matt also caught on maggot again, with carp to 8lbs featuring again, this time from peg 18 on the Beech.

Stuart Shalla (DOW AC) was next to the winner on Ash peg 7 and put another big catch on the scales, 95-8-0 for third, and Tony Foster (OB Wolves) completed the best frame of the year so far when he weighed in 86-2-0.

Colder weather moved in for the week-end but weights held up well and Neil Turner (Fox Tipton) won with 83-12-0 from peg 7 on the Ash. Maggot was the winning bait once more, and Neil offered his at 12 metres to tempt carp to 7 lbs.

Runner up Harry Colley (OB Wolves) opted for corn at peg 3 on the Beech. Fishing to the paddles and close in, he picked up carp to 6lbs to weigh 71-5-0. Jez Williams ((Wolverhampton) led the way on the Chestnut with 59-14-0 to finish 3rd overall and Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) claimed 4th from Beech 7 where he scaled 55-0-0.

A snowy Sunday saw Simon Richardson (Maver Midlands) lead the way from peg 1 on the Chestnut, and for the first time in the week, corn beat the maggot. Simon fished it close in to find carp to 9lbs to put together a winning net of 80-12-0.

Dave Brown (Wolves) stuck to maggot at peg 32 on the Oak and netted 64-3-0 of carp to 6lbs for second. Chris Bradley (Wolves) was top rod on the Sycamore and third overall with 57-12-0 from peg 49, and Matt Stobbs rounded off his week with his third visit to the prize table, collecting a shared 4th Neil Turner. They each weighed 57-6-0, Matt at Oak 23 and Neil at Sycamore 13.
