Dave Lloyd [Maver] ignored the margins at peg 13 on the Sycamore Pool at Boldings Pools on Wednesday, concentrating his efforts instead on the 10 metre line, a move which paid off with a 53-6-0 winning bag. Carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs made up the catch, which was taken on pellet.

Jason Atwell [Kingswinford] combined pellet and maggot to alternate between 6 metres and 10 metres       at peg 33 on the Sycamore, and had carp in the 5lb bracket which gave him 44-10-0 for second place. Peg 8 on the same pool provided Tim Kibble [Swan] with 37-4-0 for third, while a Beech Pool top catch of 31-15-0 put Tim Probert [PI Boldings] into fourth.

Thursday honours went to Swan Elite rod Terry Edwards after he drew Chestnut peg 30. Maggot at 6 metres put carp to 6lbs on the scales for a total of 50-10-0.

Dave Brown [Maver] used his winter standby combination of bread and maggot to entice 42-10-0 of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs from peg 46 on the Sycamore to fill second spot. Nathan Spain [Shrewsbury] headed the Willows Pool card to finish in third overall, his 41-12-0 coming from peg 19. Back on the Chestnut Andy Jenkins [Pool Hayes] picked up fourth with his 39-14-0 from peg 7.

Dave Brown [Maver] put together a mid week double top at Boldings Pools this week, starting on Wednesday when 59-5-0 from Ash peg 20 put him in the clear by over 19lbs. Maggot, fished at 6 metres and 12 metres put Dave in touch with carp in the 5lbs range.

Dave Doughty [Woodend] chose to fish pellet at Ash peg 5, working the bait 10 metres out from the peg, where he too found carp to 5lbs, which he used to build a runner up net of 45-0-0. Simon Richardson [Maver] was pegged on the Hawthorn Pool and took a pool best of 40-13-0 from peg 5 to finish in third overall. Back on the Ash Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] was fourth, just behind Richardson on39-12-0.

Brown led the way by a bigger margin on Thursday when the Sycamore and Willows Pools came into play. This time he worked with both maggot and bread punch, with both pole and leger tactics accounting for carp to 8lbs, which formed into a 79-2-0 winning total at  peg 8 on the Sycamore.

Second went to Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] at peg 33 on the Sycamore by courtesy of a 47-5-0 net of carp to 6lbs, which came to maggot at 8 metres. Only three ounces separated third and fourth, which both came from the Willows Pool. Terry Edwards [Swan Elite] sneaked into third by scaling 42-9-0 at peg 4, and Matt Stobbs had another 4th by weighing 42-6-0 at peg 19.

The cold wind on Saturday made for slower going and 35-7-0 from peg 32 on the Chestnut handed victory to Andy Price [Oak Ang Cent]. Carp to 4lbs made up the catch, which Andy took on maggot at 12 metres.

Just along the bank at peg 34, Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] had bigger fish at shorter range, carp to 5lbs on maggot at 6 metres, but when the finish came he was one fish short on 32-10-0. It was the Sycamore Pool which gave third and fourth this time, with 30-6-0 from peg 13 giving third to Steve Owen [Monkhall], and 27-5-0 from peg 45 putting Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] into fourth.

The Boldings Fur & Feather on Sunday attracted a good turn out as usual, and saw a clear winner in Andy Sherwood [Bilston Ang Cent]. Maggot proved to be the best bait again, ensuring Andy took home the large Christmas hamper and the £130 cash prize. Peg 16 on the Beech Pool yielded carp to 5lbs on the 9 metre line, to give a return of 81-12-0.

Steve Owen moved up a place on the previous day, claiming the runner up prizes with a mix of carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs, caught on maggot at peg 8 on the Sycamore. The catch came maggot at 10 metres, and gave figures of 56-5-0. Clive Wynn was in the prize list again, his 47-6-0 from Sycamore 44 giving him third, while a level 40-0-0 from Beech peg 7 saw Keith Powell [PI Boldings] into fourth.

Andy Williams [Vespe] set the hottest pace of the week on Wednesday when the action switched to the Beech Pool. Andy was drawn on peg 18, where maggot on the 8 metre line attracted carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs, which helped him to ease away from the field, ending the match with an advantage of over 40lbs and a weight of 102-8-0.

Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston ] fished at 8 metres and into the corner with maggot at peg 20 to net 61-12-0 of carp to 5lbs to share second spot  with Gary Morris [PI Bold]. Gary was on peg 23 and also had carp to 5lbs, which he tempted with pellet at 6 metres.

Clive Wynn added a first place finish to his Wednesday runner up by bagging 77-3-0 of carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs at Sycamore peg 33 on Thursday. The catch came to pellet and maggot, worked on the 12 metre and 4 metre lines.

Pete Davidson [Oak Ang Cent] completed a trio of close weights with 47-3-0 from Beech 18.

The awful weather forecast for Sunday failed to arrive and Kelvin Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] made the most of respite to finish the week in winning fashion. Rotating between the 5 metre and 10 metre lines with maggot maintained the bite rate to keep carp to 7lbs coming to the net, for a final tally of 73-2-0.

Last Sundays winner Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] used pellet and maggot at 10 metres  out from peg 23 to net 67-11-0 of carp to 6lbs to finish second this time. Boldings report    27-9-16.

Fittingly the top catch of the week at Boldings Pools came in the popular Nick Gretton Memorial match held on Sunday, in which extra prizes were donated by Nick's parents John and Sue Gretton.

Dave Brown [Maver] already has a string of 'top weights' to his credit this year, and he added to that string with victory here when he posted 170-12-0 at Willows peg 14. The bream and barbel in the Willows Pool have put on weight in the past few months, and Dave demonstrated this by including samples of both species to 5lbs, together with carp to carp to 8lbs, in his haul. All of the fish came to caster, presented at 10 metres.

Second also came from the Willows when Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] weighed in 135-15-0 at peg 7. Caster was the bait again, which Andy worked at 6 metres to attract carp to 7lbs and barbel to 5lbs. Third placed Kelvin Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] was the top rod on the Larch Pool, netting 119-12-0 at peg 14 to finish just ahead of a tie for fourth between Graham Roberts and Ralph Johnson [both PI Boldings]. They each had 118-3-0, graham from Sycamore peg 21 and Ralph from Sycamore 24.

Prior to the memorial match the week started with a win for Stefan Davies [Shrewsbury] who used shallow pellet tactics to move ahead of the field in the Monday open. Peg 29 on the Oak produced 157-9-0 of carp to 6lbs to give Stef his victory.

Round at peg 1 on the end of the dam wall, Manchester visitor Dave Olly [Irlam] caught carp to 7lbs on banded pellet to claim second spot with 123-7-0. Mick Keene [ABC] was top of the list on the Willows Pool when he scaled 111-0-0 to take third overall at peg 17, and back on the Oak Mick Jameson [PI Bold] had 88-3-0 at peg 31 to complete the prize list.

Dave Olly jumped a place to first on Wednesday when his banded pellet at 5 metres and corn in the side put 121-0-0 of carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs on the scales at peg 13 on the Sycamore.

Ralph Johnson [PI Bold] used shallow caster at 8 metres to bag 113-1-0 of carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs to finish second at Chestnut peg 21.

109-7-0 from Sycamore 22 handed third to Phil Shaw [PI Bold] and at Sycamore 30 Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] scaled 99-14-0 in fourth.

His maggot and corn approach found carp, barbel and bream willing to have a go at each side of the peg, and carp to 9lbs, with bream and barbel to 3lbs combining to make up a 148-0-0 winning net.

Dave Brown warmed up for his week-end performance with a runner up placing. He was on Sycamore peg 45, and wasn't far behind with 141-10-0 of carp to 8lbs, caught on caster, alternating between fishing up in the water and presenting the bait on the deck. Down at the other end of the long bank on the Sycamore, at peg 31, Paul Evans [PI Bold] claimed third by weighing in 131-12-0, while an Oak pool best of 110-13-0 from peg 27 handed fourth to Tony Woolaston [Fatty's].
