Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  26-2-13.

Mick Jameson [Mid Leisure] was in the frame four times at Boldings Pools this week, with a win and three runner up places, to add to his first and second placings last week. In the bitterly cold weather, dominated by easterly winds, maggot was the successful bait on all of the matches.

Jameson scored his win on the Monday match on the Sycamore Pool, where he drew corner peg 18. Maggot, fished close to the bank brought a succession of small carp, which built up a winning weight of 48-9-0.

At peg 5 Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] fed maggot at 5 metres to find carp to 4lbs and barbel to 3lbs to finish second on 43-13-0. Just round the corner from Eric, at peg 3, Monday regular Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] put his name on third prize by weighing 37-9-0, and at peg 13 Phil Shaw [Lower Hill] had 31-6-0 for 4th.

Phil Shaw turned his fourth into a first on Wednesday in the tightest frame of the week. The match was on the Chestnut and Phil was on peg 35, fishing maggot at 6 metres. Carp to 4lbs and barbel to 2lbs made up a net of 33-9-0 which took top place.

Mick Jameson had the first of his three runner up finishes with a mix of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs for 31-1-0 at peg 30. Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] was only two pounds behind on 29-0-0 at peg 38 and one and half pounds behind him, on 27-7-0 at peg 18 was Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent].

The honours were fairly even between the Hawthorn and Beech pools on Thursday, with the Hawthorn giving first and third, while second and fourth came from the Beech.

Terry Edwards [ Kings] was the man in first place at peg 7 on the Hawthorn, where he fished at 8 metres, alternated with close in tactics, which put an all carp 50-11-0 on the scales.

Mick Jameson was second again, having a Beech Pool top score of 44-12-0 from peg 7. Back on the Hawthorn, Matt Stobbs improved on his Wednesday showing with a third best 25-13-0 from peg 3, and at Beech 23 Tim Probert [PI Boldings] took fourth with his 22-12-0.

Top weight of the week came on a freezing Saturday match when Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] chose waggler tactics at peg 48 on the Sycamore to defy the elements. Carp and barbel, with samples to 6lbs and 3lbs respectively, put in regular appearances to help Andy to put together an unassailable 74-15-0.

Second went to the top man on the Chestnut, Malcolm Holland [PI Bold] who caught carp and bream at 10 metres at peg 32, but he was a long way behind the winner on 34-5-0 at the whistle. A level 32-0-0 from Sycamore 13 gave Shane Rogers [Oak Ang Cent] 3rd and Colin Reynolds had another frame place with 27-10-0 from Sycamore 33.

Dickie Weaver [Tubertini Ludlow] won the final match of the Boldings programme when he headed the Sunday card from peg 49 on the Sycamore. He had a lot of carp in the 1lb to 4lbs range with some barbel to 3lbs, all on maggot at 13 metres, for a total of 59-11-0.

Mick Jameson used the same tactics at peg 47, but slightly smaller fish left him short of the winner on 50-2-0. Two pegs further along the bank, at 45, Pete Sawyer [Bronx] netted 37-9-0 to hold off a challenge from Danny Boden [Oak Ang Cent] whose 36-3-0 was the best from the Larch.
