Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  5-2-13.

Competitors in the Wednesday open at Boldings Pools last week were battered by the winds, and two of them suffered broken poles in the gales. Ken Humphries [Oswestry] took advantage of a bit of shelter at peg 32 on the Beech Pool to put together a match winning 43-0-0, which he did with carp to 4lbs, caught on corn, fished down the side.

The rest of the weights came from the Hawthorn, with Stuart Aston [Swan JT] claiming second from peg 9, where he fished corn to the island, and into the corner for 29-9-0 of carp to 3lbs. Over on peg 3 Tony Foster [PI Boldings] netted 20-15-0 to claim third ahead of Chris Jones [Carp Crew] on 20-1-0 at peg 12.

The Stock Pool proved best in the windy conditions on Thursday, giving the top three weights, which included the best of the week. That distinction went to Terry Edwards [Kings] who presented pellet at 6 metres and 8 metres from peg 7 to attract carp to 5lbs. A steady supply of fish saw Terry pop 64-10-0 on the scales after the whistle.

Over at peg 10 John Wild [Stafford] fished in the side and at 8 metres with pellet, and found carp to 4lbs for a return of 47-2-0, which put him in the runner up spot. Next door to John, at peg 11, Dave Barnard [Rod & Gun] was a close third on 45-6-0. Fourth man Pete Sawyer [ Bronx] had the top catch from the Middle Pool, 37-1-0.

Maggot, fished at `12 metres gave Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] a narrow victory in a very tight frame on Saturday, with two fellow Oakengates Centre rods following in close formation. Matt was drawn on Beech peg 16, and had all carp in the 1lb to 4lbs range in his 32-12-0 winner.

At peg 6 on the Chestnut Mark Skelton mixed barbel to 3lbs with carp to 4lbs using pellet and maggot at 4 metres and 8 metres to scale 32-7-0 in second. Just behind Mark, on 32-4-0 at Chestnut 30 was junior star Morgan Davidson, and Tony Foster framed for the second time when he weighed 30-11-0 at Beech 18.

Gary Morris [PI Boldings] maintained his consistency when he added another win to his list on Sunday, after drawing peg 45 on the Sycamore. Carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs homed in on his pellet bait, fished just down the shelf and out at 8 metres, to give a final tally of 57-13-0.

Barbel to 3lbs and carp to 5lbs made up the catch of runner up Colin Wozak [Matrix Total Angling] at Sycamore peg 8. Colin had his fish on maggot and pellet, fished to each side of the point and out at 10 metres. Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] had a Chestnut top score of 42-13-0 from peg 32 to pick up third, and back on the Sycamore Dave Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] had 36-7-0 at peg 48 to claim fourth.
