Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 24-11-09

Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Centre) was the star of the show at Boldings Pools this week, finishing with well over double the weight of anyone else on the Sunday open, when he put together the best winning catch of the weeks programme.

Having drawn the shortest walk from the café, peg 1 on the Oak, Kel tackled it by fishing maggot in the corner, and down the dam wall to net a succession of carp to 7lbs on his way to 101-10-0.

Runner up Dave White (Maver) didn’t come anywhere near the winners catch rate with his Chestnut best of 43-2-0, which fell to pellet, fished at 5 metres from peg 21.

Colin Wozak (Telford) netted a Beech Pool best of 40-10-0 at peg 18, and Elliot Johnson (Rod & Gun) made it four different pools in the top four places with 39-4-0 from Ash peg 7.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling Centre) has won a high proportion of the Monday opens since they started, and followed up last Mondays win with yet another one this week.

Having won on the Stock Pool last time, Colin took his victory on the Oak this week. Fishing pellet at 8 metres on peg 32, he put a level 51-0-0 on the scales, with fish to 5lbs making the weight.

On the same side of the pool, Alan Jones (Deggys) also worked pellet at peg 26, to find carp to 5lbs on the 6 metre line and close in, to finish on 43-0-0. Almost opposite Alan, on peg 15, Martin Travis (Total Angling) scaled 34-13-0 in third and up by the island at peg 18, 29-4-0 gave 4th to Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun).

Andy Williams (Vespe/Total Angling) was the clear winner on Wednesday as he practiced for the forthcoming final round of the Shropshire Winter League. Fishing maggot in the side and shallow in open water at peg 8 on the Middle Pool he netted carp to 6lbs on his way to 86-4-0.

Fellow Total Angling rod Robbie Griffiths was second with 49-10-0 on similar tactics at peg 5 on the Middle.

Thursday saw a close finish when Carl Foster (OB Wolves) stopped Colin Reynolds from notching up a double. Carl was on peg 1 on the Oak and had 48-9-0 on pellet, while Colin was one small fish off his second win of the week when he scaled 47-1-0 at Oak 27.

It was close for third and fourth as well, with Dave Craggs (OBW) finishing on 35-11-0 at Oak 29 and Dave Barnard (R&G) on 35-7-0 at Oak 22.

Maver rod Simon Richardson, who will be in the Total Angling team at the Winter League match, won the Saturday open, in another close finish. He fished shallow with caster at peg 3 on the Middle to end the day on 77-6-0, with Morgans rod Ken Humphries, who will be with Rod & Gun for the league, hard on his heels on 76-10-0 at Middle 9.

Another Rod & Gun man, John Francis took third with an Oak best of 59-4-0.
