Boldings report

Boldings Report 28/1/09

The gloomy weather reduced the programme at Boldings Pools to week-end matches only, with both opens giving a close frame.

Saturday saw the better sport, with Dave Brown (Maver) scoring his second successive Saturday win by netting 40-3-0  at Beech peg 16. Dave had carp to 4lbs on pellet, fished at 16 metres.

On the Larch Pool, Scott Doodson (Rod & Gun) also fished pellet at 16 metres and found a better stamp of fish, with specimens to 6lbs at peg 8, but was left needing one more fish when the whistle went, and he saw the scales settle at 37-10-0. Three pegs along from Scott, Matt Stobbs (R&G) had a level 37-0-0 for third at peg 5, and Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) scaled 28-11-0 at Larch 15 to claim 4th.

It was harder going on Sunday on the Chestnut and Sycamore pools and David Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) scored a narrow victory with 21 -11-0. Dave was on Chestnut peg 7, where maggot, fished on the 6 and 9 metre lines attracted carp to 4lbs to make up winning bag. Similar tactics worked for Carl Foster (OB Wolves) at peg 16 on the Sycamore, and he finished only 9 ounces short of the winner with a net of small carp and silver fish. Dave Hailey (OBW) was over on peg 33 on the Sycamore, where he put Beethoven’s 18-12-0 on the scales for third, and Dave Brown made the frame again with 15-3-0 for 4th at Sycamore 18.
