Boldings report

Boldings Report 7/1/09

One of the last places to freeze up is Boldings, and the paddles did their work this week to allow a full match programme to go ahead, although some competitors did find the water icing over in front as they fished at times.

Wednesday was easily the best day, producing the top catch and a close finish between the top two. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) added a victory on this one to the he had on Thursday last week, aided by one decent sized bonus fish. Pegged on Beech 16, Mick fished pellet and maggot at 12 metres for mostly small carp, in temperatures of minus 5c, with his bonus fish pushing his final figures to 45-4-0.

Dave Brown (Maver) was on Ash peg 7 where he also caught small carp (from 1lb to 3lbs) which he tempted with maggot fished at 14 to 16 metres. There were no bonus fish for him though, and he finished just one fish short of winning when he weighed in 53-12-0, for the first of an amazing run of three second places and a shared first in this weeks matches.

Third man Jamie Langford ((OB Wolves) was some way behind with a Hawthorn best of 20-8-0, and Dave Jones (Morgans Oswestry) picked up 4th thanks to 18-4-0 from Hawthorn peg 1.

Thursday was the day Dave Brown got his shared top spot when he tied with Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun). Eric fished pellet and maggot at 12 metres on Ash peg 11 and Dave worked at 12 metres and 16 metres with maggot at Ash peg 6. Both finished with a level 31-0-0.

Dave Jones finished one place higher than he did the previous day, taking third this time with 25-1-0 from Ash peg 9.

Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) made it two Saturday wins in a row when he pushed Dave Brown back down to second with 22-14-0 form peg 1 on the Middle Pool. Carp from 1lb to 3lbs responded to Kel’s maggot bait, fished to the paddles.

Dave fished long again, catching fish of a similar stamp to those of the winner to scale 20-14-0 at Deepdale peg 4.

Pete Plant (Maver) and Neil Turner (Wolverhampton) each scaled 15-13-0 to share third, Pete was on Ash 7 and Neil Stock peg 10.

Dave Jones (Morgans) framed for the third time on Sunday, finishing off the week with a winner when he netted 29-7-0 at Stock peg 2. Carp to 5 lbs found his maggot bait, fished at 12 metres to give him a nine pound advantage over guess who, Dave Brown. He was on peg 26 on the Larch, and took fish at 10 metres and 14 metres, with samples to 4lbs making up his 20-12-0. Pete Plant scored another third when he put 19-2-0 on scales at Stock peg 10 and Richard Lawson (WB Clarke) completed the weeks frames with 15-6-0 at Chestnut peg 1.
