Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT

Boldings Pools staged a full program of six opens over the holiday period, starting last Wednesday, when the Chestnut Pool dominated, producing the top three weights.

Top man was Howard Williams (Deggys Wrexham) with a catch of carp to 7lbs, caught on corn and maggot, fished close in and at 6 metres. He put 67-10-0 in the weigh net at peg 30 to beat the challenge of Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun), who was on peg 28.

Dave fished to the island with maggot to net carp to 6lbs, and was left needing a couple more when the whistle went, giving him a final tally of 61-0-0. His runner up spot was the first of three visits to the frame, and behind him, Ken Humphries (Morgans Oswestry) put in the first of two appearances with a third best of 31-5-0 at peg 10.

Fourth man Dave Matson (R & G) led the catches on the Sycamore with 25-1-0 from peg 50.

The Beech Pool provided Dave Brown (Wolves) with a winner on a wind lashed Thursday open. He drew peg 16 and had all small carp, up in the water on maggot at 12 metres for 59-15-0.

Two weights from the Ash took the next two prizes, with Mark Foster (OB Wolves) nipping into second ahead of Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure). Mark was on peg 5 and scaled 51-12-0 while Mick had 45-13-0 at peg 9. Fourth placed Chris Jones (Carping Crew) was close behind on 44-3-0 at Beech 3, and best on the Oak was 5th overall Carl Foster (OB Wolves) on 41-12-0.

Good Friday was especially good for Andy Williams (Telford) who claimed the winners purse when he converted Ash peg 9 into the top peg of the day.

Maggot in the margins helped Andy to a net of carp with a total weight of 70-11-0, made up with fish to 7lbs. Just around the corner of the pool at peg 12, Martin Davenport (Dorset AC) couldn’t find any of the bigger fish, and his 61-1-0 runner up consisted of carp in 1lb to 3lbs bracket. Further round, at peg 18, Joe Brennan (OB Wolves) was just under 10lbs behind second on 51-7-0, and fourth went to a Chestnut best of 45-12-0 form Ed Turner (OB Wolves) at peg 28.

Ken Humphries made his second visit to the prize table on Saturday, when he moved up from 3rd to first, taking top honours on a bitter day which saw snow flurries carried on the cold wind.

Peg 9 on the Ash came up with the goods again, giving Ken figures of 47-15-0. maggot at 5 metres did the trick, but it was a close run thing, with Mel Kitson (R & G) only two pounds behind at the finish. He was on Ash 18, and fished pellet and corn for 45-14-0.

Dave Barnard also made the frame for the second time, taking third form Ash peg 14 with 41-0-0. Kevin Melville (Dorset) was top on the Larch and 4th overall with 35-9-0 from peg 1.

Three different pools gave the top three scores on Sunday, when Paul Evans (Storeys) finished ahead of a trio of OB Wolves rods. He netted 61-3-0 using maggot at 12 metres on peg 39 on the Sycamore, and included carp to 7lbs in his catch.

Paul Cartwright was the best of OB Wolves rods, and best on the Chestnut, scaling 58-2-0 using maggot down the shelf at peg 13. Graham Roberts headed the Oak card form peg 21 where he scaled 43-4-0, leaving Darren Turner to complete the frame with 40-11-0 from Chestnut 17.

Steve Roberts finished top of the biggest line up of the week and was the first of a trio of Rod & Gun anglers at the top of the frame on bank Holiday Monday.

Carp to 9lbs, caught close in on maggot at Sycamore 42 helped Steve to a total of 57-3-0, enough to establish a 7lbs advantage over Matt Stobbs. Matt was on Ash peg 1, and had mostly small carp with the odd one of 5lbs, fishing in the side and to the paddles with maggot, ending the day on 50-3-0.

Dave Barnard was there again, taking another third when he put a level 39-0-0 on the scales at Sycamore 8.Pete Tolley (Wolverhampton) topped the Chestnut sheet with 34-6-0 to take 4th, Richard Duke (WB Clarke) had an Oak best of 33-0-0, and Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) was best on the Beech with 32-11-0.
