Boldings report

Boldings report    21-1-15.

The harsh weather restricted the match programme at Boldings Pools this week, with both the Monday and Wednesday opens being non starters, but then the Thursday match provided surprisingly good winter returns for the top two in the frame.

Match winner Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] defied the conditions to put together an impressive 67-10-0, but he didn’t have much to spare over runner up Jordan Hall [Kings].

Having drawn peg 18 on the Beech Pool Ken opted to fish maggot, which he presented close in to the side and at 14 metres, where carp to 5lbs snapped up the bait to give Ken his win.

Jordan was on the Ash Pool, at peg 20, where maggot was the successful bait again, attracting carp to 4lbs to the 14 metre line. At the whistle Jordan was just one fish short of overhauling the winner when the scales recorded 65-13-0.

Third came from Beech peg 7 where Terry Edwards [Kings] weighed in with 38-10-0, and in the corner at Beech 11 Dave Doughty [Woodend] claimed fourth with 32-7-0.

Hard frost and snow flurries curtailed catches on Saturday and 36-7-0 gave Richard Davenport [Maver] a comfortable winning margin. Pegged on the Oak Pool dam, Richard fed maggot close to the paddles at peg 3, as well as on the 14 metre line to entice carp to 4lbs to have a go.

Round at peg 8 on the Oak, Tony Foster [PI Boldings] went for a pellet approach, fishing at 8 metres, and had carp to 3lbs in a runner up 24-8-0. Close behind second, with a Chestnut Pool top catch of 23-4-0 from peg 32 was Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] and 10 ounces behind him was Steve Owen [Monkhall] on 22-10-0 at Oak peg 29.

The Oak gave the top two catches again on Sunday, with peg 27 helping Dave Lloyd [Maver] to edge 3lbs ahead of a scramble for the minor placings.

Working maggot in the channel, and close to the stumps put Dave in touch with what has become the winter average fish, carp to 4lbs, and at the end of the day he had slipped the net under a total of 35-7-0.

Up at peg 4, on the dam, Colin Wozek [Vespe] also had carp to 4lbs as he built his runner up 32-5-0 using maggot at 12 metres. The Chestnut gave third again, this time for Ian Winter [Wolves] who was only three ounces off second with his 32-2-0 at Chestnut peg 9. Fourth went to a Willows top score of 29-11-0 by Steve Hall [Oswestry] at peg 16.
