Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  5-3-14.

The Monday frame at Boldings Pools saw just 6 ounces separating first and second placed. Phil Shaw [PI Boldings] scraped home in a neck and neck race with Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent]. He was Sycamore peg 47 where carp to 5lbs and bream to 3lbs moved in on his maggot bait, fed close in to the side. When the scales had done their job, Phil was credited with 64-7-0.

Round at Sycamore 33 Colin fished maggot over pellet at 5 metres and close in to pick off carp from 1lb to 4lbs and barbel to 3lbs, but one too many of the smaller carp left him just short on 64-1-0.

Peg  8 on the Sycamore produced 50-3-0 to hand third to Bob Hill [Shrewsbury] and close behind him, two anglers tied for third, weighing 48-12-0 each. Both drew number 36, Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] had 36 on the Chestnut and Colin Wozek [Matrix TA] 36 on the Sycamore.

Weights were down on Wednesday and 41-12-0 gave victory to Stuart Aston [Swan] at peg 4 on the Chestnut. Pellet and maggot down the edge put carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs in the net for Stuart.

Maggot at 6 metres and in the side found a similar stamp of fish for Tony Moreton [Preston Innov] at peg 18 and gave a tally of 35-9-0 for second. One fish behind Tony came Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] on 34-3-0 at peg 7 and at peg 30 Mick Jameson [PI Bold] had a level 32-0-0 for 4th.

Catches were well up on Thursday and Dave Brown posted the top weight of the week to score the first of two victories. Maggot at 4 metres found carp bream and barbel at peg 13 on the Sycamore, with bream and barbel to 3lbs and carp to 5lbs adding up to 97-11-0.

Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] was top man on the Larch and second overall when he scaled 87-13-0 at Larch 24, having caught carp to 6lbs with a close in maggot attack. Third came from the Willows Pool when Adam Slade [Sedgeley] weighed in 73-14-0 at peg 13, and back on the Larch, Colin Reynolds was amongst the prize winner again with his 72-9-0 at peg 16.

Dave Brown topped 90lbs again on Sunday, this time from the Beech Pool. Drawn on peg 18 he worked with pellet and maggot this time, baiting at 7 metres as well as in the margins. A regular supply of carp to 6lbs gave a return of 92-2-0 to keep him ahead of last weeks top weight man Kel Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent]. Kel was on Beech 16 and had carp to 5lbs on maggot at 5 metres and close in, with the smaller stamp of fish making the difference and leaving him on 84-9-0. A Larch best of 56-14-0 gave Craig Goldstraw [Ind] third and Ton Moreton framed again with a Chestnut best of 54-3-0.
