Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  25-3-14.

The better weights came in the early part of the week at Boldings Pools, with top catch in the five matches coming on Monday. It fell to Chris Jones [Carp Crew] after he drew peg 20 on the Ash, which tackled with pellet and maggot. Fishing close in found carp to 7lbs for final figures of 123-9-0.

At peg 7 on the other side of the pool, Tony Foster [PI Boldings] fished up in the

water with pellet to match the catch rate of the winner, but with fish from 1lb to 4lbs making up his catch, he had to settle for second when the scales settled at 107-15-0.

Less than 2lbs off second came last Mondays winner Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] who netted 106-2-0 at Ash peg 23. Fourth went to a Beech Pool by Mick Jameson [PI Bold] who completed the first all ton frame of the year with 100-12-0.

Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] got back to winning ways on Wednesday when he recorded a clear victory from peg 6 on the Chestnut. Maggot fished down the edge produced 102-12-0, which included over 40lbs of bream which were accompanied by carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs.

At peg 30 on the same pool Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] had carp to 7lbs with bream to 2lbs in a net of 70-2-0, taken on pellet and maggot, close in. Top man on the Sycamore was Dave Lloyd [Maver] who finished third overall with 66-12-0 from peg 13, and at peg 48, last Wednesdays winner Dave Brown [Maver Midlands] collected 4th with his 64-10-0.

Harry Colley [PI Bold] was another angler making a return to the winners enclosure this week, taking the spoils on Thursday. Meat and pellet, offered at 5 metres, and to each side of peg 13 on the Oak, gave a return of 93-15-0, which included carp to 8lbs.

At beech peg 7 Nige Clarke [Matrix Total Angling] kept pace with the winner for most of the match, but smaller fish, carp to 4lbs, left him just short at the finish on 89-2-0.

Back on the Oak Steve Lovell [Mosella Bait Tech] took third from peg 1 on the end of the dam by weighing 75-11-0, and at peg 27, Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] had 69-4-0 in fourth.

Maggot, fished shallow and in the margins at peg 4 on the Sycamore set Brian Clarke [Colmic Marukyu] on the road to an emphatic win on Saturday. Carp and barbel snapped up the bait, with samples to 6lbs and 3lbs adding up 95-2-0, which gave Brian 36lbs to spare over the rest.

Jack O’Sullivan [Oakengates Ang Cent] followed up his followed up his 4th of last Sunday with a second on this match, netting 58-12-0 of carp to 7lbs using shallow caster and maggot at Sycamore 50.

At peg 33 Alan Naylor [Oak Ang Cent] scaled 54-11-0 in third and at peg 24 43-14-0 gave Adam Jones [Willenhall] fourth.

Sycamore 4 came up with another on Sunday when shallow caster and maggot provided an all carp 99-0-0 for Colin Wozek [Matrix TA]. The same tactics produced carp and bream for Richard Guest [Maver Midlands] at peg 16 on the Chestnut, who was 3lbs behind the winner on 96-0-0. Third came from the Oak where Mark Taylor [Shakespeare] netted 92-14-0 at peg 1. He was followed by Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] on 89-3-0 at Oak 29.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  18-3-14.

At Boldings Pools a minimum of 80lbs was needed to top each of the frames this week, with Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] setting the trend on Monday when he finished clear of a Larch Pool field. Drawn 16 on the south side of the pool, Eric picked off roach to a pound and carp to 5lbs using maggot in the margins. At the end of the session he had 83-12-0 in the net.

At peg 1 Phil Shaw worked shallow maggot in open water as well as in the margins

to net all carp to 4lbs on his way to 67-1-0, which put one fish ahead of a tie for third between Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] and Tony Foster [PI Boldings]. They each weighed 64-10-0, Colin at peg 14 and Tony at peg 4.

Dave Brown [Maver Midlands] extended his run of form with two more wins this week, the first of which came on Wednesday when he grabbed the spoils from peg 23 on the Beech. Going out to 12 metres to offer caster and maggot found the fish, and Dave had a busy time popping samples from 1lb to 4lbs in his net to end the day on 83-8-0.

Second came from Oak peg 31 where Phil Foster [PI Bold] fished pellet into the corner and at 5 metres to attract carp to 5lbs and barbel to 2lbs for a total of 57-10-0 which just held off brother Tony, who framed for the second time running by scaling 56-15-0 at Oak 29. Fourth went to Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] who had a level 48-0-0 at Beech peg 20.

Continuing the 80lbs theme Nige Clarke recorded 88-7-0 to win on Thursday after he drew peg 8 on the Sycamore. Maggot to each side of the point brought carp to 6lbs with bream to 3lbs sliding over the rim of the landing net to give Nige his win.

On the other point peg, 13, Keith Powell [PI Bold] also worked with maggot to each side of the peg, but also went out on the 5 metre line to put together 69-10-0 with carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs. Opposite Keith, at peg 48,  Gareth Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] had 60-12-0 for third, and Eric Bancroft was in the prize list again, recording a Chestnut best of 60-8-0 to pick up 4th.

Keith Powell stepped up to top spot on Saturday when maggot fished close in to each side of Sycamore peg 40 stood him in good stead in the closest match of the week. Carp and barbel, to 7lbs and 3lbs, homed in on the bait to give Keith a return of 83-10-0.

On the Chestnut Pool Rob Brennan [Maver] finished two fish short of the target when his shallow caster and maggot attack put 77-12-0 on the scales at peg 16. Back on the Sycamore Pete Ricketts featured again, taking third this time with 70-11-0 from peg 13. Fourth went to a Willows best of 69-15-0 by dave Craggs [Maver Midlands].

Dave Brown picked up his second win of the week on Sunday and also had top score of the week with a level 136-0-0, one of six ‘tons’ recorded in the match.. Shallow caster and maggot worked again for Dave, this time at peg 24 on the Oak, where carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs made up the weight.

Runner up Dave Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] combined pellet and maggot at Chestnut peg 30 to attract carp and barbel for 122-2-0. At Chestnut 21 Graham O’Sullivan [OAC] was a close third on 120-4-0, with his son Jack O’Sullivan [OAC] 4th with 109-13-0 from Sycamore 49.
