Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  12-3-13.

Weights were consistent at Boldings Pools this week, and even the icy blast at the week-end had little effect.

Monday was the slowest day when the Sycamore was used for the affordable open, which was won by Gary Steel [Willenhall AC]. Maggot was again the top bait, and Gary fished it at 8 metres from peg 13 for a net of carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs weighing 61-10-0.

Last Wednesdays winner Keith Powell [PI Boldings] went out to 12 metres at peg 48 to find his fish, carp to 4lbs and barbel to 2lbs, which gave a total of 54-14-0. To the left of the winner, at peg 23, Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] had a level 26-0-0 for third and at peg 4 Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] grabbed 4th with 23-11-0.

The Beech produced the top weight of the week for Nige Clarke [Matrix] on Wednesday, and came to maggot and pellet, fished to each side of the point at peg 7. Nige found carp to 7 lbs lurking around the point, and he put together a level 88-0-0 for victory.

Peg 23 on the Beech has been in the frame quite a few times already this year, and featured again, giving second to Carl Foster [PI Bold] when he netted a mix of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs using pellet at 8lbs. Carl’s mix weighed in at 67-9-0. Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] was round at peg 32 where 53-14-0 gave him third, and he was followed by Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] on 51-1-0 at peg 18.

Colin Wozak [Matrix TA] helped himself to another Boldings win on Thursday after he drew peg 8 on the Sycamore. Colin fished maggot at 13 metres, and close in to each side of the point, where carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs snapped up the bait for a return of 79-8-0.

Runner up Jordan Hall [Maver] was on the Chestnut, at peg 32, where similar tactics to the winner found similar samples of carp and barbel. Catch rate wasn’t quite the same though and left Jordan 16lbs short on 63-13-0. Back on the Sycamore, John Bridgwater [Kings] finished only 4 ounces second when he scaled 63-9-0 at peg 16, and at peg 46 another Kings rod, Terry Edwards, netted 58-14-0 to pick up 4th.

Maver backed rods filled the first three places on Saturday, with Dave Craggs [Maver Midlands] heading the list. He was on Larch peg 15, where an all carp catch added up to 73-10-0. maggot at 14 metres, alternated with close in fishing, netted carp to 5lbs for Dave.

At peg 13 on the Sycamore Matt Stockton [Maver] found carp to 4lbs and bream to 3lbs using maggot at 7 metres. He saw the scales settle at 54-1-0 to give him second, just under a pound in front of Mitch Davidson [Maver Gold] His 53-3-0 came from peg 48 on the Sycamore, and 4th also came from the same pool when Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] recorded 47-12-0 at peg 18.

There was a Maver man at the top again on Saturday when Dave White [Maver Bag’em Baits] put his name on the top prize with a haul of carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs. Drawn on the long bank of the Sycamore, at number 33, dave had his fish on the 10 metre line, and from close in, with maggot bait. At the finish, he slipped the net under a total of 72-14-0.

Chestnut peg 32 came up with the runner up catch again, this time for Ken Humphries [Oswestry] who fished pellet down the shelf for a mix of carp and barbel weighing in at 59-3-0. Sycamore 48 also featured again when Wednesdays winner Nige Clarke dropped 53-4-0 on the scales at the peg to finish third. He was followed by Graham Roberts [ PI Bold] on 45-13-0 at Sycamore 45.
