Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  1-5-12.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) scored his third Boldings Pools Monday open victory of April, and his second on the trot, last Monday, when he topped an all ton frame with 125-8-0. Peg 1 on the Middle Pool at the complex was the scene of the latest triumph, which Mick tackled with pellet at 4 metres, which attracted carp to 4lbs.

Graham Evason (PI Boldings) fished close in at peg 15 on the Hawthorn to find carp to 8lbs and roach to 1lb, which gave him 112-8-0 for second on the day.

Third placed Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) was top man on the Beech Pool, recording 104-13-0 for third overall at peg 5 and at Beech 20 Colin Wozak (Telford) filled out the frame by scaling 103-12-0.

On Wednesday Tony Foster (PI Bold) added another first place to his Thursday win of last week. Fishing through gales and heavy rain, a foretaste of the week-end weather to come, Tony presented his pellet bait into the corner, and across to the far ban at peg 5 on the Middle, and included carp to 6lbs in his 110-14-0 winner.

Dave Cole (PI Bold) also had a corner peg, number 5 on the Deepdale, and worked pellet into the corner as well as at 5 metres to pick up carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs, but was well behind top spot on 44-8-0.

Back on the Middle Mick Jameson was in the prizes again his 38-8-0 giving him third ahead of Neil Mansfield (Wem) who had 34-9-0 from the Deepdale.

Top weight of the week came on Thursday and fell to fishery boss Ed Turner (PI Bold) at peg 50 on the Sycamore. Fishing into the corner on his left and in the margins on his right with corn had carp to 8lbs lining up to give an aggregate of 139-9-0.

Three pegs along from the winner, at peg 47, Gary Morris PI Bold) had carp to 14lbs and barbel to 2lbs on pellet at 5 metres to finish second on 116-0-0. Dave Barnard (R&G) was on point peg 8 and netted 88-14-0 to claim third, and at peg 21 Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had 83-15-0 to finish 4th.

The top four weights came from the Sycamore on Saturday, when competitors had a biting wind to contend with. Jason Elwell (Phil’s Tackle) enjoyed some shelter from the wind behind the conifers at peg 1, and also enjoyed some good sport at the peg, to pick up the top prize. He fished pellet at 4 metres and down the side to put together 109-3-0, with carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs.

Andy Williams (Vespe) had to fish into the teeth of wind at peg 33 to net carp to 7lbs on corn at 5metres, on his way to 81-12-0 and second place. Mick Jameson was in the mix for the third time, his 73-9-0, taken fishing into the wind at peg 27, giving him another third. Over at peg 4, Kevin Melville (Maver Total Angling) weighed 66-3-0 in 4th. Best the Chestnut was John Francis (R&G) who just behind 4th on 65-13-0.

Sunday was more like an endurance test than a fishing match, but weights were surprisingly good in the circumstances, and Colin Wozak was only three ounces short of  80lbs. He drew peg 5 on the Hawthorn and fished pellet, presenting it to the island, but alternating the close in line to keep fish, carp to 6lbs, coming to the net, and ended his soggy Sunday with 79-13-0,

Kel Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Centre) was up at corner peg 1 on the Hawthorn, where maggot in the side found carp to 8lbs for 66-8-0. Third came from the Oak Pool when Chris Holmes (Middle Severn Angling) scaled 63-15-0 at peg 22 and on the same pool Dave Matson (R&G) had a level 59-0-0.

The runner up spot recorded by Andy Williams on Saturday was important in the Preston league for April. It pushed his score above that of points leader going into the week-end, Clive Wynn, making Andy the champion of the month.
