Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  30-5-12.

Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) converted a 4th last Monday at Boldings Pools to a first this week with a big weight winner. Ash peg 9 has been going well lately and did so again when Bob drew it, and worked pellet and corn down the side to net 144-2-0 of carp to 8lbs.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) used the shallow pellet method at peg 11 on the Hawthorn and carp to 6lbs in a net of 102-13-0. Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) made it three different pools in the top three places by recording 102-4-0 for third at Beech 16, and the winner of the Preston Innovations angler of the month for May, Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) took 4th with 95-14-0 from Ash 23.

Nine was the winning number again on Wednesday, this time on the Hawthorn Pool, which produced the top catch of the week for Dave Lloyd (Maver Midlands). Pellet to the island, and close in found carp to 7lbs eager to have a go and Dave built a 150-8-0 total.

Clive Wynn (Tricast Weston) was in the corner at peg 1 on the Hawthorn where he had fish from the paddles, and into the bank, with carp to 8lbs giving figures of 115-3-0. Alan Jones (Deggys) had a Stock Pool top score of 98-13-0 for third and a Middle best of 87-15-0 put Rob Morris (Wolves) into 4th spot.

Point peg 13 on the Sycamore came good on Thursday for Paul Ferguson (PI Boldings) when corn, fished to each side of the peg resulted in carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs sliding into the net to give a return of 103-1-0.

Second man Graham Roberts (PI Bold) had his fish, carp to 6lbs and barbel to 2lbs, on pellet, fished into the corner at Sycamore peg 4, but he was well behind the winner on 60-7-0 when whistle went. Only one ounce behind second with a Chestnut top weight of  60-6-0 was Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) at peg 21, and 4th also came from the Chestnut when Ed Turner (PI Bold) scaled 57-7-0 at peg 13.

Pete Plant (Maver) made it four different pools giving the top weights when Willows peg 2 yielded 107-12-0 to his shallow caster approach on Saturday. Carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket, and barbel to 2.5lbs made up the catch for Pete.

John Francis (Rod & Gun) included roach to a pound with carp to 7lbs in his 87-6-0 runner up at Larch peg 1. Back on the Willows, at peg 8 Paul Postin (Kidderminster) netted 72-2-0 to finish third and at peg 19 Mac Cox (Fiery Holes) had 58-2-0 in 4th.

Sycamore 13 gave its second winner of the week on Sunday, with Jeff Harston (Wrexham) the beneficiary this time. His decision to fish bread proved a wise one when carp to 9lbs came from each side of the peg for a final tally of 121-10-0.

Over to Jeff’s left, at peg 21 Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) worked shallow caster at 10 metres and down the edge for 99-9-0 of carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs.

Third man Martin Harrell (Maver) was the best on the Chestnut with 79-7-0 and close behind him, on 77-0-0 at Sycamore 50 was Matt Stockton (Maver Tipton).

With the double Bank Holiday on Monday and Tuesday next week Boldings are running a Queens Jubilee two day Preston Innovations Festival  (June 4th and 5th). Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  23-5-12.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had a good week at Boldings Pools this week, framing four times in the five matches held at the venue, picking up three third places and a first.

Harry Colley was the first winner of the week, taking the honours on the Monday open by topping an all ton up prize list. Meat and pellet, fished down the side of peg 5 on the Hawthorn, put Harry in touch with carp to 8lbs, enabling him to open up a 20lbs winning margin with a total on 128-15-0.

At peg 3 Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) fed maggot and corn at 6 metres and close in to contact carp to 6lbs, which gave figures of 108-15-0. On the opposite side of the pool Mick Jameson scored the first of his three thirds by scaling 103-9-0 at peg 11, and just along the bank at peg 9, Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) completed the ‘tons’ with 101-15-0 for 4th.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had the best haul of the week to win the Wednesday match from consistent peg 9 on the Ash. Pellet and paste tactics at 5 metres and in the margins caught the attention of carp to 7lbs to put Pete in charge of the frame with 133-8-0.

Up at peg 4 Mick Keene (Tricast Weston) worked with pellet on the hook to net carp in the 1lb to 4lbs bracket from close in and on the 6 metre line to claim second with 106-2-0. Mick Jameson was third again, finishing just short of 100lbs this time with 99-0-0 from peg 18. That left Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) on 86-2-0 at peg 14, to pick up 4th.

Thursday saw Tim Richards (Wolverhampton) take centre stage from peg 37 on the Chestnut, where pellet and corn found carp to 9lbs. Picking up fish from the 5 metre line and from close in, Tim put together 94-10-0 for his win.

Runner up John Edwards (Oswestry) had carp to 8lbs and barbel to 2lbs on paste, fished close in at Willows peg 16 to weigh 86-11-0. Mick Jameson completed his hat trick of thirds with a Sycamore top weight of 82-3-0 from peg 6, and at peg 8 on the Willows John Wild (Stafford) had 76-11-0 to finish 4th.

The top three all ‘tonned’ it on Saturday and there was only 5lbs separating them. Mick Jameson picked up his win on this match, which puts him in a strong position in the Preston points league for May. Mick top spotted from peg 3 on the Beech Pool by offering pellet at 5 metres and to the paddles to put carp to 7lbs on the scales for 116-9-0. Every fish counted as Jason Elwell (Phil’s Tackle) was less than 3lbs behind at Beech 23. He had carp to 8lbs on pellet and paste to finish on 113-13-0. Third went to the top weight from the Larch where Kevin Melville (Maver Total Angling) netted 111-3-0 at peg 16 and another pool best, 98-1-0 from Chestnut 10 gave John Francis (Rod & Gun) 4th.

The Willows Pool came up with a winner for Mark Taylor (Staffs) on Sunday, his level 88-0-0 coming from peg 12. Pellet, fished shallow and into the side found carp to 6lbs.

John Wild was in the prize list again, picking up second this time with a Larch best of 81-7-0, which he took on pellet at 5 metres and close in at peg 15. Scott Doodson (Preston Innov) led the way on the Sycamore with 73-2-0 to claim third and also on the Sycamore was 4th man Les Thompson (Staffs) who had 72-13-0.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  9-5-12.

Clive Wynn Tricast Weston) was back on the winning trail at Boldings Pools where he picked up the top prize in the Bank Holiday Monday match. Working the 8 metre and 10 metre lines at peg 17 on the Willows Pool, Clive attracted carp to 7lbs and ghosties to 5lbs to put together a 117-12-0 winning total.

At peg 4 on the same pool Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) mixed barbel to 2lbs with carp to 8lbs in his runner up 101-10-0, which came to pellet at 8 metres and down the edge. Best on the Sycamore was Ed Turner (PI Boldings) who was third overall with 91-8-0 from peg 50 and fourth placed Danny Boden  (Oakengates Angling Centre) had a Chestnut top score of 89-3-0 from peg 30.

Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) struggled to find any sizeable carp at peg 5 on the Ash on Wednesday, but his pellet bait, fished shallow on the 12 metre line found plenty of smaller samples, and between the starting and finishing whistles, he had popped no less than 114 fish into his net, to record the first double century of the year, his catch totaling 212-10-0.

Keith Miller (New Willenhall) must have found it hard to believe that his 120-2-0 at Beech peg 11 had been eclipsed by almost 100lbs, after he had been involved in a close battle with Harry Colley (PI Boldings) at Beech 16. Harry ended the day less than 2lbs behind Keith on 118-7-0. Fourth came from the Ash When Alan Jones (Deggys) weighed 97-6-0 at peg 12.

They had some very windy conditions to contend with on Thursday, but weights held up well and the top two, who were both pegged on the leeward bank of the Willows Pool, both weighed over 100lbs.

Ed Turner PI Boldings) took advantage of corner peg 9 to build a 123-10-0 winner with carp to 6lbs and tench to 2lbs, all caught on pellet fished close in to each side of the peg.

Along the bank in the other corner, at peg 13, Howard Williams (Weston Pools) also offered pellet in the margins and he had a mixture of carp to 4lbs and barbel to 2lbs, which gave a runner up total of 102-3-0. Best weight from the Oak was 87-0-0 and the best from the Chestnut was also 87-0-0 which meant that Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) and Tony Armitage (Telford) shared third place, Sean was on peg 1 on the Oak and Tony on Chestnut 32.

Chestnut pegs filled the frame on Saturday with pegs on each side of the island giving the top two catches. Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) put shallow caster tactics to work at peg 21, combined with pellet to the island and close in to ease ahead of the opposition with carp to 7lbs helping him to 96-9-0.

Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) used pellet to the island and corn down the side at peg 28, where the carp ran a bit smaller, with samples to 6lbs coming to 83-15-0. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) kept his recent run going and added to his Preston points tally by filling third spot, weighing 78-7-0 at peg 15. Mick was closely followed by Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) on 75-13-0 at peg 23.

With shallow caster tactics coming into play as the weather warms up, ‘caster master’ Pete Plant (Maver) established himself at the top of the frame on Sunday when his favourite method put 140-1-0 in the weigh net at Oak peg 31. Carp to 5lbs made up the catch.

Up at peg 22 on the Oak Nige Clarke  (PI Bold) had a weight which varied from his winning bag of Thursday last week by only 5 ounces. This time his 123-12-0 left him in second place. Nige had carp to 8lbs and skimmers to 1lb on corn and pellet on the close in line.

Saturdays winner Steve Owen picked up third thanks to a Willows best weight of 114-1-0 from peg 8 and last weeks double winner Richard Duke (Bridgnorth AS) topped the Chestnut list with 93-6-0 to finish 4th.

Boldings are running a Queens Jubilee two day Preston Innovations festival on June 4th and 5th.
