BOLDINGS REPORT
Carl Foster (OB Wolves) set a blistering pace at Boldings Pools on the Saturday open to record the first double ‘ton’ of the year and set a new match record, finishing an amazing 130lbs ahead of the rest of the field.
Fishing pellet, paste and corn close in at peg 24 on the Sycamore, Carl found carp into double figures queuing up to attack his bait and he clattered out almost 50lbs an hour to finish with an arm aching 242-8-0.
Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) must be wondering what he has to do finish in first place at Boldings. He has beaten the 100lbs mark at least three times recently, only to find that someone else has had a huge weight to beat him. It happened again on this match, and Dave found his 112-9-0 on maggot and corn from Sycamore 48, completely overshadowed by the new record.
Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) followed up a mid-week win with a third on this match, scaling 79-14-0 at Sycamore point peg 8, to pip Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) who had 76-10-0 from Sycamore 33 for 4th.
The Sunday open produced three ton weights for the first three places, led by 118-11-0 from last weeks double winner Eric Bancroft (R&G). He was on Sycamore 42 where carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs picked up his close fished corn and pellet to give him the win.
Carl Foster followed up his record breaking exploits form the previous day with a runner up 116-0-0 this time out. He fished pellet in the side at Sycamore 49 for carp to 9lbs.
Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) completed the trio of tons with a Chestnut top score of 109-12-0, leaving Chris Holmes (Middle Severn Angling) to pick up 4th with 92-10-0 from Sycamore 32.
Ralph Johnson preceded his third place on Saturday with a big weight winner on Thursday. This time he was on the other point peg on the Sycamore, peg 13, and fished corn to each side to pick off carp to 9lbs on his way to 169-0-0.
Carl foster warmed up for his record setting with 115-1-0 from Chestnut peg 7. Carp to 7lbs and bream to 4lbs responded to his close in pellet and corn approach.
Mick Jameson was another man in the frame again, and Sycamore peg 8 gave third again when Mick handed 105-1-0 to the scales. Fourth went to John Wild (
The Wednesday match didn’t foretell hectic sport to come, with the Ash Pool giving competitors a relatively quiet time. Brian Clarke (Maver Midlands) won with 54-3-0, which came to pellet, fished shallow and in the side at peg 7, and consisted of carp in the 1lb to 4lbs range.
Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) scaled 50-15-0 at peg 16, with carp to 5lbs on pellet and corn. Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) was a couple of pounds behind on 48-9-0 at peg 12 and Steve Woodhall (OBW) finished things off with 43-2-0 at peg 18.
