Boldings report

Boldings Report 16/7/08

Catches at Boldings were down slightly on last week and top catch of this week was 81-3-0, which saw Colin Wozak (Telford) grab first place on the Wednesday open. Colin combined paste and corn, fished close in and at 5metres at Beech peg 23 to pick off carp to 6lbs.

Last weeks big winner Mark Mountford (Shifnal) found bigger carp with paste at Beech 19, with fish to 7lbs dropping into his net, together with bream to 2lbs, but there weren’t enough of them to trouble the winner, as Mark finished on 67-9-0.

Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) was just behind second with an Ash Pool best of 66-7-0 from peg 17 and Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) completed the line up with 63-14-0 at Ash 23.

Ed Turner (OB Wolves) is having a good run, and added a win to it on Thursday, topping the Sycamore card with 68-10-0 from peg 33. The catch included some good bream to 4lbs as well as carp to 7lbs, which all came to corn and pellet, close in.

Eric Bancroft (R&G) also featured bream his runner up 65-1-0 at Sycamore 36. He also caught close in on corn and pellet, with carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs making up his weight.

On the opposite side of the Sycamore, Neil Mansfield (Wem) netted 51-9-0 at corner peg 4 to finish third ahead of Tony Foster (OB Wolves) on 47-3-0 at peg 16.

Best on the Chestnut was Dave Barnard (R&G) with 44-4-0.

John Francis kept the Rod & Gun flag flying with a week-end double, taking the honours on Saturday from the Hawthorn Pool, and following up with a Sycamore winner on Sunday.

Saturday saw John on peg 7 in the corner of the Hawthorn where he alternated between the 5 metre line and close in with pellet. Carp to 6lbs obliged, and gave a weight of 80-1-0 at the whistle.

Along at peg 3 Jason Atwell (Wolverhampton) worked an 8 metre line and a three one with corn and pellet to net carp to 5lbs, which gave him 74-12-0 for second./ He was followed by another Wolverhampton rod, Dave Brown, who scaled 58-3-0 at Hawthorn 5.

Brian Clarke (Maver Midlands) was 4th with a Larch best of 57-13-0.

Francis was on the Sycamore Pool on Sunday where the 5 metres and close in attack with pellet worked again, finding bream to 4lbs and carp to 9lbs, which gave a total of 77-13-0, which was just enough to beat Paul Hollis (Sedgley). He was over on peg 24 and stuck to the close in line with corn and pellet. He had more fish than the winner, but not a big, with carp to 7lbs and bream to three making up his 77-8-0.

Two Oakengates Angling Centre rods shared 3rd, with David Emlyn and Danny Boden both having 68-13-0.
