Boldings report

SPORTS DESK 8/8/07

Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Centre) has had a number of weights close to the 100lb mark from Boldings Pools, but has always fallen just short of the magic figure. Until this week that is. On Sunday he eased past the ‘ton’ at peg 13 on the Sycamore, by fishing close in with maggot for carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs, to finish the day in top spot on 118-0-0.

Richard Lawson (R & G) led the way on the Oak with 104-3-0, another maggot based catch, which came from peg 29. 88-11-0 from peg 27 on the Sycamore gave John Francis (R & G) third ahead of Nick Powell (Bridgnorth) on 85-9-0.

Two Shrewsbury rods battled for top honours on Saturday, with Kevin Melville (Phoenix) getting the advantage over Andy Williams (Dorset). Kevin fished corn and maggot at peg 28 on the Chestnut to take fish close in for 84-8-0. Andy was over on the Hawthorn, and he too worked corn and maggot, alternating close in and out to the paddles at peg 1. He fell 10lbs short of the winner though, to scale 74-8-0.

The Hawthorn gave the next two places, with tied weights from Kev Williams (OB Wolves) at peg 3 and Martin Harrell (Maver) on peg 11. They both scaled 68-3-0 to share third.

Caster was king for Rob Baker (Mosella) on Wednesday, giving him nearly 30lbs to spare over Warren Russon (MB Angling). Rob scaled 95-6-0 at Chestnut 32, with carp to 8lbs coming to the caster at 12metres. Warren used corn close in at peg 15 for 66-10-0, which put him in front of Matt Stobbs (R & G) on 63-5-0 at peg 40. Completing the top four was Leon Duvalier on 54-9-0 at peg 30.

Top weight of the week went to Tony Foster (OB Wolves) who beat a trio of Chestnut weights comfortably on Thursday with 128-4-0 on shallow fished pellet from Ash peg 9. Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling) headed the Chestnut trio with 85-11-0 on corn at peg 21. Harry Colley (OB Wolves) followed with a third best of 76-6-0 at peg 18 and Telfords Andy Williams completed the line up with 61-10-0 at Chestnut 30.
