Boldings report
SPORTS DESK.
There were plenty of ton weights at Boldings Pools again this week as the fish continued to feed ravenously after spawning.
The weeks matches began on Wednesday, just before the rains, and this was the quietest day, the only one when less than 100lbs took the honours. Top man here was Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) who took advantage of a draw on the point at peg 8 on the Sycamore Pool. Fishing to either side of the point, Mel had carp to 8 lbs on pellet and corn, to scale 89-14-0. Corner peg 4 has shown some decent form this year, and did so again for David James (Mosella Storeys). He added a second to his top weight win of last week when he tipped 82-5-0 onto the scales to finish well clear of third man Tony Foster (OB Wolves). He had a level 63-0-0 at peg 10 and was followed by Pete Plant (Maver Tipton) with a Chestnut best of 51-7-0.
The rain had arrived with a vengeance on Thursday, but the fish seemed to enjoy it, and the top three all beat 100lbs. Top of the trio was Andy Williams (Telford) with a haul of 111-1-0, which consisted of carp to 9lbs, which Andy attracted with a corn and maggot approach at peg 22 on the Oak.
Over on the Ash, Tony Foster improved on his third place on Wednesday, by working shallow fished pellet at 10 metres, to whisk out 108-10-0 of carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket at peg 18. Along at corner peg 14 on the Ash, Paul Cartwright (OB Wolves) was one fish behind Foster on 106-3-0.
Top man on the Beech Pool was Ed Turner (OB Wolves) who scaled 90-14-0 for 4th overall.
On Saturday the Sycamore and Larch pools each came up with a brace of 100’s, with the Sycamore giving Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling) the days best net, 119-14-0. Colin offered maggot and corn to each side of peg 47 to find bream to 3lbs and carp to 9lbs. Runner up Alf Taylor (OB Wolves) also worked with maggot and corn at peg 11 on the Larch, and almost matched the winner with 111-10-0. Dave Brown (Maver) was a close third on 109-0-0 at Larch 28 and fellow Maver rod Steve Dudley completed an all ton top four with 102-13-0 at Sycamore peg 50.
Jason Elwell (MB Angling) took his turn at the winners rostrum on Sunday, stepping up for the winners purse after netting a level 102-0-0 on shallow fished maggot and caster at peg 17 on the Ash.
Over in the corner, at peg 9 on the Ash, last Sundays winner Duncan Newton (WB Clarke) fished maggot and caster for 95-12-0 to take second this week. John Raby (British Baits) led the way on the Willows with 86-12-0 to finish third, leaving Mick Jameson to complete the top 4 with 82-14-0 at Ash 7.
