Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] decided on a paste approach to the Monday open at Boldings Pools, having been successful with maggot last week. His decision paid off handsomely with a 143-6-0 winner, which came from peg 8 on the Oak Pool. Eric worked his paste to each side of the peg and picked off carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs in putting together his top catch of the day.

Matt Edgerton [Oakengates Angling Centre] was over on Oak peg 24, where pellet at 5 metres found carp to 6lbs made up a runner up 115-3-0. Peg 31 produced a level 90-0-0 to give third to Dave Cole [Bronx] and up at the other end of the pool Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] was just behind on 87-7-0 at peg 22.

Boldings were hosts to a Fish 'O' Mania qualifier on Wednesday, an event which attracted an entry of over 80 anglers, all vying for the coveted place in the £62,000 final, in which the winner will collect a cool £50,000.

With only the winner of the qualifier going forward to the Grand Final, it was all to play for at Boldings and it was Chris Weeder [St Helens] who triumphed with a weight of 132-2-0 from peg 20 on the Ash Pool. Chris swapped between fishing shallow maggot in open water, with pellet on the inside line to keep carp to 6lbs coming to the net.

For Andy May [MAP] it was a case of so near yet so far, as he finished two fish behind the winner with 122-1-0 of carp to 6lbs. He was on Chestnut peg 23 and fished to the island with shallow caster and maggot. Simon Christian [PI Boldings] finished in third at peg 1 on the Acorn Pool where he scaled 114-6-0, and frame regular Dave Brown [Maver] had 101-10-0 in fourth at Chestnut peg 7.

Eric Bancroft was back at the top of the card on Thursday with a weight which was less than a pound different from his Monday winner. This time he was Chestnut peg 23, but stuck to a paste attack to bag carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs on his way to 144-4-0.

Runner up Bob Baker [PI Bold] had carp to 9lbs in his 140-6-0, which came to pellet, worked at 5 metres and down the side at Sycamore peg 24. Steve Owen [Monkhall] picked up third with 117-15-0 at Chestnut 39, which edged out Colin Reynolds for the second time. Colin was only three ounces behind on 117-12-0 at Chestnut 32.

Top weight of the week came on Sunday, and it came from the Fish 'O' winning peg, Ash 20. Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] drew it this time, and a maggot and pellet combination worked again to give figures of 175-1-0.

Andy Williams [Vespe] fished to each side of Larch peg 16 with corn and maggot to bag carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs which made up his second placed 129-3-0. Dave Brown framed again, filling third this time by weighing in 120-4-0 at Larch peg 1, while a Willows Pool best of 89-3-0 put Kel Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] into fourth.

Clive Wright [Ind] collected the main prize in the Bank Holliday open at Boldings Pools by overshadowing three weights from the Sycamore Pool. Clive was on the Chestnut Pool, peg 20, and operated with shallow caster to bag 124-10-0 of carp to 6lbs to establish a 28lbs advantage, and put his name against the top weight of the week.

Roger Gamblin [Tricast Weston] led the way on the Sycamore to take the runner up pot. He was on point peg 13, and presented pellet and corn to each side to bring in carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbswhich gave a final weight of 96-2-0. Richard Guest    [Maver] was involved in a close fight for third with Tony Wollaston [Fatty's] a fight which he won by 67-15-0 to 67-2-0.

Les Thompson [Matrix] scored the first of two victories for the week when he topped the Wednesday card from Beech peg 32. Carp to 7lbs made up a net of 87-7-0, which Les attracted with pellet, fished at 8 metres.

The next three weights all came from the Ash Pool, where Andy Williams [Vespe] led the way. He was on peg 18 and combined corn and pellet at 6 metres and on the inside line to record 75-3-0. Over on peg 9 Simon Christian [Sedgley] put 71-2-0 on the scales to put his name on third, while up at the end of the pool Carl Pugh [PI Bold] had 57-10-0 for fourth at peg 23.

The winners laurels went to Eric Bancroft on Thursday when the Sycamore was the host pool, and Eric drew peg 21. Maggot in the margins sorted out carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs and the 71-8-0 recoded against Eric's name gave him a fairly comfortable margin.

Along at peg 24 Harry Colley [PI Bold] employed his meat, corn and pellet combo close in to fill second with 55-15-0 of carp to 7lbs. Steve Owen [Monkhall] had a level 52-0-0 for third at peg 4, and a level 38-0-0 handed fourth to Dave Brown [Maver].

Saturday saw Les Thompson back in the driving seat, this time at peg 4 on the Larch. Going out to 16 metres to present pellet, up in the water, got carp to 6lbs feeding to give a winning total of 84-13-0.

Graham Roberts [PI Bold] fished to the island with corn and pellet to bag 66-6-0 of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs at Chestnut peg 23, to claim second. Back on the Larch Graham palmer [Fitters] snatched third with 62-0-0 from peg 28, with Tim Cadwallader [PI Bold] hot on his heels on 61-8-0 at Larch 26.

Oakengates Angling Centre rods mopped up the prizes on Sunday, with Matt Edgerton adding to his recent triple success with a narrow victory.

Carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs put in an appearance at peg 6 on the Larch, where Matt was pegged, and he snapped up 118-12-0 of them using pellet at 5 metres.

Across at peg 24 Steve Roberts fed maggot and pellet down each side of the peg to find carp to 8lbs together with bream and barbel to 3lbs, and one more of any of the three species would have changed the result  as Steve finished with 115-15-0. Less than 3lbs behind second was Kel Emlyn on 113-4-0 at Larch peg 16, while a Sycamore Pool best of 97-6-0 gave fourth to Gareth Emlyn.
