report

Boldings report    12-4-16.

Average weights at Boldings Pools are on the up, and the week finished with a flourish when the Sunday open produced a top three of ton up catches.

Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] got things off to a good start on Monday with an 81-6-0 winner from peg 3 on the Stock Pool. Fishing to each side of the peg with pellet and corn resulted in an all carp net which was made up with fish in the 4lb bracket.

Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes]was on the other side of the pool at peg 11, where he fished the same bait combination and had fish of the same size, but caught at 6 metres as well as close in, to put 60-1-0 on the scales. Joe Brennan [PI Boldings] had his third placed 52-8-0 from the next peg to the winner, peg 4, and fourth came from peg 7, around the corner, where Jason Atwell [Kingswinford] had 48-11-0.

Back up weights were better on Wednesday when match honours were shared between the Beech and Chestnut pools, with the Beech coming up with the top catch for Graham Palmer [PI Bold]. He made peg 5 count with a punched bread approach, working the bait close in to pick off carp to 6lbs on his way to 84-1-0.

Steve Owen [Monkhall] continued his run of form, adding to his double win of last week by recording top weight on the Chestnut for second overall. Drawn on peg 30, Steve landed carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs using maggot and corn close in and at 5 metres to scale 8-4-0. Only 8 ounces behind second was Paul Roberts [PI Bold] on 79-12-0 at Chestnut 17, and Jason Atwell picked up another fourth when he posted 67-12-0 at Beech peg 11.

The action moved to the Sycamore and Oak Pools on Thursday and it was the Sycamore which proved best on the day, giving the top two weights.

Top man was Steve Forest [Nomads] who drew reliable peg 33 and found carp to 8lbs and barbel to 4lbs in residence. He tempted them with maggot and corn presented to each side of the peg and ended the day with 82-8-0 to lift the main prize.

Nearly 60% of the 67-10-0 which gave Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] second consisted of barbel to 4lbs, the rest being carp to 5lbs. Matt caught on maggot and pellet at 5 metres and close in. Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] had the top catch from the Oak, 51-11-0, for third overall, and back on the Sycamore Tim Cadwallader [PI Bold] took 4th with his 48-13-0 at peg 21

For the second week running Dave Brown [Maver] headed the Saturday card, but it was a close run thing, with Dave winning by just 4 ounces. Alternating shallow caster and maggot on long pole with bread punch in the margins of peg 13 on the Chestnut brought carp to 5lbs to the net, giving a final tally of 70-10-0.

Over at peg 35 on the Sycamore Phil Rhodes [PI Bold] worked maggot and corn at 8 metres and down the edge to entice carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs, but fell agonizingly short when the scales stopped at 70-6-0. Kel Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] finished just ahead of his son Dave [Oak Ang Cent] by scaling 66-14-0 at Sycamore 13, while Dave had 63-1-0 at peg 4.

The Sunday super frame was topped by Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] with the top weight of the week, 119-5-0. He decided on a bread punch attack at Beech peg 14, presenting his bait close in to the side, where he contacted carp to 6lbs, which he netted at regular intervals throughout the match.

Dave Brown tagged a second place finish onto his previous days winner, by fishing maggot at 8 metres and bread close in to end the day on 105-13-0 at peg 11. Kevin Melville [Shrewsbury] was the third ton up rod, his 103-8-0 coming from peg 32. Fourth went to Pete Shilton [PI Bold] who had 84-7-0 at peg 3.
