Boldings report    20-4-16.

What a week at Boldings this week, where the lowest winning weight was only 6.5lbs short of the 100lb mark, and the top one was less than 10lbs short of 200lbs.

It was on the on the Monday open when Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] posted 93-8-0 to claim the winner's purse. Point peg 8 on the Sycamore was the scene of Bob's victory, where carp to 6lbs joined bream to 2lbs in snapping up his bread bait, which he worked to each side of the point.

Shallow caster did the business for Chris Holmes [Middle Severn Angling] at peg 32 on the Chestnut, bringing in an all carp 87-3-0, which featured fish to 5lbs. Opposite Chris at peg 13, Mitch Robinson [Wigan] was less than half a pound behind on 86-12-0 and Colin Reynolds Bilston Ang Cent] wasn't far behind him with his 80-11-0 at Sycamore 24.

The best of the week came on Wednesday and once again it was Dave Brown [Maver] who made the big haul to maintain his hot form.

Last time out Dave used maggot and bread on the Sycamore Pool, this time he was on the Oak and combined caster and maggot to fish in the side at peg 22, where carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs were eager to snap up the bait. At the end of a busy match, the scales had their work cut out to record a huge 190-9-0.

On the opposite bank, at peg 18 Graham Palmer [PI Boldings] was another busy angler, netting carp to 6lbs which he caught on bread and maggot close in. He couldn't match the winner, but managed 125-9-0 for second. On the Ash Pool Gary Marland [Wigan] and fellow Wigan rod Mitch Robinson  fought a close battle for third, with Gary edging it by 102-15-0 to 101-0-0.

What a result Thursday gave. Alun Jones [Drennan] won with 177-12-0 but only had 9 ounces to spare over runner up Paul Evans [PI Bold].

Alun fished across to the far bank and down the inside line at corner peg 8 on the Willows Pool, using maggot and pellet to locate carp to 8lbs and barbel up to 5lbs.

Up in the top corner at peg 22 Paul also had some of the bigger barbel, with fish to 5lbs, but his carp ran a bit smaller than those of the winner,  with samples to 7lbs leaving him just shy of the target on 177-3-0. Darren Warden [Kings] kept the frame average up with 134-14-0 for third at Willows peg 19, while the best weight from the Chestnut, 124-1-0 from peg 30 gave another fourth placing to Colin Reynolds.

The northerly wind on Saturday brought with a drop in temperatures and a consequent drop in weights generally, but Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] managed a big ton from Sycamore peg 30 to warm himself up, and low temperatures or not, he caught up in the water on caster and maggot. The bream were absent from the peg on the day and Paul won with an all carp net of fish to 6lbs which gave a total of 126-4-0.

Shallow maggot rotated with corn and pellet in the margins helped Andy Kyte [Mid Severn Ang] to second place at Sycamore 21, where carp to 7lns and bream to 3lbs returned 88-3-0. Across on the long bank, Dave Craggs [PI Bold] collected third thanks to 76-3-0 at peg 33, and fourth came from peg 1 where Mick Jameson [PI Bold] weighed in 57-2-0.

Sunday honours were bagged by Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] from peg 32 on the Beech Pool, which gave a fine mix of carp to 8lbs, bream to 2lbs and quite a few good roach. All of the catch came from  close in, and fell to maggot. At the weigh in Andy was awarded 146-3-0, which gave a winning margin of 24lbs.

Dave Brown featured in the frame again, adding a second place to his big mid-week win. He was on Beech peg 7 and switched between shallow tactics in open water and working his maggot and caster bait close in, and netted carp to 6lbs to end the day on 122-12-0. A level 96-0-0 from Beech 5 secured third for Rob Lloyd [Maver], while an Ash Pool top score of 91-7-0 saw Saturday's winner Paul Wheeler into fourth.

Boldings report    20-4-16.

Spring arrived in style at Boldings Pools this week, and all of the opens were won with 100lb plus weights. Star of the week was Dave Brown [Maver] who included top weight of the week as he collected two firsts and a second place, all with over 100lbs.

Dave began the week with a big win on Monday from peg 6 on the Sycamore where carp to 5lbs homed in on his bread punch, presented in the margins.  A steady stream of fish came to the net for figures of 130-7-0.

Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] demonstrated the fact that the barbel at Boldings continue to grow by including samples to 5lbs, with carp to 7lbs, in his runner up 80-8-0. Colin caught on pellet and maggot fished to each side of peg 8. Tony Foster [PI Boldings] put a level 68-0-0 on the scales for third at peg 21, with Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] close behind on 66-13-0 at peg 48.

The fish in the Oak Pool joined in the feeding spree on Wednesday and bread again proved to be the top bait, when Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] used it to good effect at peg 24. Andy worked his bread at 8 metres, and close in to pick off carp to 8lbs on his way to 154-14-0.

Nathan Spain [Tricast Weston] opted for maggot at peg 22, to fish shallow in open water as well as dropping in down the edge for 120-12-0 of carp to 6lbs. Opposite the winner, at peg 16, Paul Evans [PI Bold] picked up third for his 73-10-0, leaving Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] to finish things off with his 61-9-0 from peg 13.

The second win of the week for Dave Brown came on Thursday when he combined maggot and bread at peg 8 on the Sycamore to attract the attention of carp, bream and barbel by fishing to each side of the point. Carp to 8lbs with bream and barbel to 3lbs obliged to give top catch of the week, 162-11-0.

Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] was on the Chestnut Pool, fishing corn and maggot to the island and into the corner at peg 23 to snare carp to 6lbs and barbel to 4lbs, which gave a runner up 122-10-0. Andy Williams framed again with another ton, 113-8-0, which put him into third at Sycamore peg 39. Colin Reynolds also framed again, taking fourth this time with 89-1-0 from Sycamore 13.

There was snow and ice early in the day on Saturday but Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] still managed a big ton, 133-12-0, to win with. Shallow fished maggot and caster got the fish, carp to 7lbs, feeding at peg 30 on the Sycamore, to put Paul in command of the match. At the finish he had 133-12-0 to hand over to the scales.

The remaining frame weights all came from the Willows Pool, but fell well short of the standard set by the winner. Dan Ashington [Sensas] offered maggot at 13 metres on peg 16 to net 78-13-0 of carp to 6lbs and barbel to 5lbs. Steve Forest [Nomads] was next door at peg 17 and had 58-6-0 for third and at peg 22 Alun Jones [Drennan] was fourth on 53-8-0.

Sunday saw a big turn out and a big frame despite the overnight low temperatures, with over 100lbs needed to take 4th.

Shane Rogers [Oakengates Ang Cent] kept just ahead of the chasing pack by using maggot, bread and corn to hold the interest of the fish at Beech peg 14, where carp to 8lbs, with bream to 2lbs, added up to 138-9-0.

Dave Brown was one fish short of a hat trick of wins when his Oak pool best came out at 134-2-0, which consisted of carp to 7lbs. Dave Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] made it three different pools in the frame by recording a Larch best of 126-7-0 at peg 8 to take third, ahead of Les Thompson [Matrix] who had 109-6-0 at Beech 23.

Boldings report    12-4-16.

Average weights at Boldings Pools are on the up, and the week finished with a flourish when the Sunday open produced a top three of ton up catches.

Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] got things off to a good start on Monday with an 81-6-0 winner from peg 3 on the Stock Pool. Fishing to each side of the peg with pellet and corn resulted in an all carp net which was made up with fish in the 4lb bracket.

Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes]was on the other side of the pool at peg 11, where he fished the same bait combination and had fish of the same size, but caught at 6 metres as well as close in, to put 60-1-0 on the scales. Joe Brennan [PI Boldings] had his third placed 52-8-0 from the next peg to the winner, peg 4, and fourth came from peg 7, around the corner, where Jason Atwell [Kingswinford] had 48-11-0.

Back up weights were better on Wednesday when match honours were shared between the Beech and Chestnut pools, with the Beech coming up with the top catch for Graham Palmer [PI Bold]. He made peg 5 count with a punched bread approach, working the bait close in to pick off carp to 6lbs on his way to 84-1-0.

Steve Owen [Monkhall] continued his run of form, adding to his double win of last week by recording top weight on the Chestnut for second overall. Drawn on peg 30, Steve landed carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs using maggot and corn close in and at 5 metres to scale 8-4-0. Only 8 ounces behind second was Paul Roberts [PI Bold] on 79-12-0 at Chestnut 17, and Jason Atwell picked up another fourth when he posted 67-12-0 at Beech peg 11.

The action moved to the Sycamore and Oak Pools on Thursday and it was the Sycamore which proved best on the day, giving the top two weights.

Top man was Steve Forest [Nomads] who drew reliable peg 33 and found carp to 8lbs and barbel to 4lbs in residence. He tempted them with maggot and corn presented to each side of the peg and ended the day with 82-8-0 to lift the main prize.

Nearly 60% of the 67-10-0 which gave Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] second consisted of barbel to 4lbs, the rest being carp to 5lbs. Matt caught on maggot and pellet at 5 metres and close in. Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] had the top catch from the Oak, 51-11-0, for third overall, and back on the Sycamore Tim Cadwallader [PI Bold] took 4th with his 48-13-0 at peg 21

For the second week running Dave Brown [Maver] headed the Saturday card, but it was a close run thing, with Dave winning by just 4 ounces. Alternating shallow caster and maggot on long pole with bread punch in the margins of peg 13 on the Chestnut brought carp to 5lbs to the net, giving a final tally of 70-10-0.

Over at peg 35 on the Sycamore Phil Rhodes [PI Bold] worked maggot and corn at 8 metres and down the edge to entice carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs, but fell agonizingly short when the scales stopped at 70-6-0. Kel Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] finished just ahead of his son Dave [Oak Ang Cent] by scaling 66-14-0 at Sycamore 13, while Dave had 63-1-0 at peg 4.

The Sunday super frame was topped by Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] with the top weight of the week, 119-5-0. He decided on a bread punch attack at Beech peg 14, presenting his bait close in to the side, where he contacted carp to 6lbs, which he netted at regular intervals throughout the match.

Dave Brown tagged a second place finish onto his previous days winner, by fishing maggot at 8 metres and bread close in to end the day on 105-13-0 at peg 11. Kevin Melville [Shrewsbury] was the third ton up rod, his 103-8-0 coming from peg 32. Fourth went to Pete Shilton [PI Bold] who had 84-7-0 at peg 3.

Boldings report    5-4-16.

The pools at Boldings were flooded for the Monday open following storm Kate, but that didn't stop Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] from beginning a successful week with a win. Things weren't easy but pellet at 7 metres combined with regular switches to maggot in the margins kept carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs coming steadily to the net at Chestnut peg 21, and at the end of the Match Andy had 56-2-0 to hand over to the scales.

Rob Brennan [PI Boldings] included 30lbs of skimmers in his runner up 43-2-0 on pellet and maggot at Chestnut 30. Steve Owen [Monkhall] followed up a profitable mid week campaign of last week with another this week, beginning with a third on this match courtesy of a Sycamore Pool top weight of 40-13-0 from peg 4. Just behind Steve, on 39-12-0 at Chestnut peg 27, was Harry Colley [PI Bold].

Steve Owen moved up the listing on Tuesday, taking over top spot with a maggot based 77-3-0 from Sycamore peg 33. Carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs made up the catch, which came from close in and at 8 metres.

Harry Colley moved up with Owen to fill the runner up spot this time, finishing just 1lb off the pace with 76-3-0. Harry netted carp to 9lbs and barbel to 4lbs using meat and pellet in the side at Sycamore 26. Peg 42 produced 67-8-0 to hand third to Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes], with fourth going to the 55-7-0 which Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] weighed at peg 50.

Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] blitzed the rest on Wednesday to weigh three times as much as anyone else. Method, bait and catch details were not available at time of going to press, but Andy recorded a superb 123-11-0 at Beech peg 32.

Nearest rival was Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] on 41-5-0 at peg 14. Paul Gadd [PI Bold] was only four ounces behind Matt on 41-1-0 at peg 5, with Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] and Joe Brennan sharing fourth with 34-12-0 each.

Steve Owen had his second win of the week on Thursday, with a weight which was only 6 ounces different from his Tuesday winner, and it was a close finish again. This time Steve was on the Chestnut Pool, at peg 4, and he fished maggot and corn. Working the baits close in and at 6 metres tempted carp to 7lbs, barbel to 3lbs and bream to 3lbs for a total of 77-9-0.

Alun Jones [Drennan] chased the winner all the way to the whistle from peg 25 on the Sycamore, using maggot and pellet to attract carp to 7lbs and barbel to 4lbs, which saw him finish only 7 ounces short on 77-2-0. John Bates [Steve's Tackle] kept things tight from Sycamore peg 8 by weighing 75-10-0 in third, and Clive Wynn finished off an exciting frame by scaling 69-14-0 at Chestnut 32 for another fourth placing.

Dave Brown [Maver] used his favourite shallow fished caster and maggot method to collect the coin on Saturday by putting 67-3-0 of carp to 5lbs on the scales at Ash peg 20.

Dave Lloyd [Maver] topped the Larch Pool list to finish second, his 63-15-0 of Carp to 6lbs coming to maggot and pellet from peg 26. A Chestnut best of 58-9-0 from peg 39 saw Steve Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] into third. Andy Kyte was back in the frame, taking fourth with 47-12-0 at Chestnut 16.

Having started the week in winning style, Andy Kyte rounded it off in unbeatable fashion, posting the top weight of the week to win by 50lbs on Sunday. Pellet and maggot had the fish, carp to 8lbs, barbel to 3lbs and bream to 3lbs, queuing up at Chestnut peg 16, where Andy heaved out 141-8-0 for victory.

Steve Owen also rounded off an excellent week in style, recording an Oak Pool top score of 90-5-0 at peg 22. Andy Williams and Dave Brown were two more rods making the frame again, Andy having 85-12-0 for third and Dave 82-3-0 in fourth
