Boldings report
The Bank Holiday open at Boldings produced a close finish and a victory for Mitch Davidson [Oakengates Ang Cent] at peg 7 on the Chestnut Pool. Switching between shallow pellet and close in maggot tactics kept Mitch in touch with carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs, which he built a match total of 145-7-0 with.
Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] worked with maggot all through the match, presenting the bait to the island and close in to the near bank at Chestnut 26. His carp ran a little smaller, with fish to 7lbs, to which he added barbel to 3lbs, but the difference in the carp made a difference to the final total and he was left just short on 141-8-0.
Best weight on the Sycamore was the 120-12-0 which gave Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] third place at peg 47, and fourth also came from the Sycamore when Josh Humphreys [ABC] scaled 112-15-0 at peg 33.
Last Thursday 150lbs was only good enough for second place for Jordan Hall [Maver]. This week 154-1-0 not only put him top of the list on Thursday, but gave him top weight of the week. Pegged on the Sycamore again, at peg 21 this time,
Les Willis [PI Boldings] worked maggot at 5 metres on Sycamore peg 16 to find carp to 8lbs and barbel to 4lbs on his way to 113-10-0 and second place. Eric Bancroft collected another third and had another pool best by weighing in 99-0-0 at Willows peg 5, and close behind him was Tony Foster [PI Bold] with 96-0-0 at Willows 19.
Chestnut peg 26 featured in the frame again on Saturday, providing the winning catch this time on day when the fish were less willing to feed.
Sean Barber [Maver] was the man on the peg, and he stuck to fishing to the island with pellet to attract carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs, which gave a return of 88-3-0 for victory.
On the Sycamore, at peg 8, Shane Rogers [Oak Ang Cent] worked with maggot at 5 metres and down the side to net a mix of carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs to take second with a level 71-0-0. Steve Owen [Monkhall] continued his run of form with a third best 60-6-0 from Sycamore 40, which was just enough to hold off Richard Duke [Mid Severn Ang] who had 59-0-0 at Chestnut peg 18.
