Boldings report

Boldings report    3-2-15.

Colin Wozek [Vespe] enjoyed a double win at Boldings Pools this week to add to his top weight win of last week.

The first leg of the double came on Monday, during a lull in the current spell of wintry weather, and it came from peg 10 on the Stock Pool. Fishing maggot and pellet found carp to 4lbs close in to the side and at 13 metres for a 47-6-0 winning total.

Keith Powell [PI Boldings] was on peg 13 on the Hawthorn, and he also employed maggot and pellet, catching carp to 5lbs out at 10 metres, to claim second with 43-5-0. Back on the Stock, at peg 13, Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] had 34-2-0 to finish third for the second Monday running.

Competitors had snow and blustery winds to contend with on Wednesday, when despite being pegged on the exposed long bank of the Sycamore, Jeff Harston  [Tricast Weston] worked his way to the top of the card. Maggot at 14 metres put 34-14-0 of carp to 5lbs on the scales to hand victory to Jeff.

Up at the end of the pool on peg 47, Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] opted for a corn and maggot combination to provide him with 27-9-0 of carp to 4lbs which put him in second. Peg 39 saw Stuart Aston [Swan] net 25-8-0 for third and peg 33 provided Mick Jameson [PI Bold] with 19-2-0 for fourth.

Wind and snow showers were the order of the day again on Thursday, when Wozek made his second visit to the prize table to collect the winners purse.

Drawn on peg 4 on the Larch, he decided to leave pellet out of the equation and worked with maggot at 14 metres, a decision which saw roach to around the pound mark dropping into the net, together with carp to 5lbs. At the whistle a total of 36-12-0 gave a winning margin of seven and a half pounds.

Second came from just along the bank at peg 6, where Andy Buckley [Wolves] used maggot at 12 metres to tempt 29-3-0 of carp to 4lbs. Jeff Harston made the frame again, finishing just behind Buckley on 28-7-0 at peg 19. Round at the back of the island, Terry Edwards [Kings] had a level 25-0-0 to collect fourth.

Steve Hall [Oswestry] has had a few frame appearances already this year and added a win to his list this week in a closely contested Saturday open. Carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs made up the catch which gave Steve top spot, and it came from peg 4 on the Sycamore, falling to maggot at 14 metres, and totalling 48-2-0.

Peg 33 featured for the second time, with Alan Naylor [Oakengates Ang Cent claiming second from it. Like the winner he presented maggot at 14 metres to net 47-4-0, which was made up with carp to 5lbs.

Keith Powell [PI Bold] was some way behind the top two with his third best 25-7-0 from peg 13, and at corner peg 50 Andy Price [Oak Ang Cent] had 21-15-0 in fourth.

Chris Hill [Mosella] just squeezes into the top weight of the week position on Sunday when he posted 48-6-0 at Larch peg 14. Ignoring the domination of maggot as top bait all week, Chris opted for a pellet approach using the pole at 14 metres to connect with carp to 5lbs.

Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] was on the Oak Pool at peg 31 and pushed the winner all the way to the finish, but in the end, a smaller stamp of fish, carp to 4lbs, left him just over a pound short of the target on 47-5-0. Over on Oak peg 8 Dave Brown [Maver] scaled 34-12-0 to take home third prize, leaving Wayne Boden [Ind] to finish off the weeks framers with his fourth placed 23-90 at Larch 24.
