Boldings report

Boldings report 8-10-14.

Maggot and pellet, fished up in the water, combined to give Dave Matson [Rod & Gun] the early honours at Boldings Pools this week. He used the tactics at peg 4 on the Willows Pool for a catch of carp to 6lbs totalling 125-0-0.

Bilston Angling Centre rod Colin Reynolds caught on pellet, fished to each side of peg 13 on the Willows, where carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs made up a 107-13-0 runner up bag. Third came from the Oak, with number 13 again proving fruitful when Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] handed over 102-12-0 to the scalesman. Back on the Willows Chris Jones [Carp Crew] filled fourth thanks to 100-7-0 from peg 9.

Top weight of the week came on the Wednesday open, fished on the Beech Pool and it fell to Colin Wozek [Matrix TA]. He drew peg 11, which he tackled with a shallow pellet approach, to make a haul of carp to 5lbs totalling 155-4-0.

Maggot down the side at peg 3 put Dave Brown [Maver] in touch with carp to 7lbs, but a slower catch rate left him short of the winner on 121-0-0. Phil Shaw [PI Bold] had 83-12-0 for third at peg 7, leaving Jason Andrews [Tricast Weston] to pick up 4th for his 77-15-0 from peg 32.

Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] just squeezed home on Thursday, winning by 6 ounces from Mark Taylor [Shakespeare]. Eric offered maggot to each side of the point at peg on the Sycamore to contact carp to 7lbs on his way to 88-8-0. At peg 18 on the same pool Mark worked pellet down the shelf and corn in the side to net carp to 8lbs, finishing on 88-2-0.

Third placed Paul Evans [PI Bold] had his 74-6-0 from the middle of the long bank on the Sycamore, peg 36. A Chestnut top weight of 71-14-0 from peg 30 handed fourth to Josh Humphreys [ABC].

More than 90 anglers lined the banks of a selection of 7 of the pools at Boldings on Saturday for a charity match in aid of Help for Heroes, organised by Alison Jones.                                                         .              Bob Baker [Kings] elected to fish long pole with banded pellet at Chestnut peg 30, and the decision paid off handsomely, putting him 34lbs clear of the rest of the field with a net of carp weighing 110-14-0, which featured carp to 7lbs.                                                         .             Beech peg 32 was in the frame again, providing second place this time for Gareth Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent]. Gareth fished short pole and maggot for a net of 76-4-0, consisting of carp to 7lbs. Third man Steve Owen [Wolves] was top of the Sycamore card with 67-1-0 at peg 30. Fourth overall and best on the Willows was Ces Williams [Kings] on 66-8-0 at peg 17, and in 5th was Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] at Chestnut 23, where he recorded a level 66-0-0.                                                                                                        This was Alison Jones first time as a match organiser and she can be very proud of the fact that the event raised £1856 for the Help for Heroes charity.

The Beech Pool gave the three best weights on Sunday, with first going top Dave Hailey [PI Bold] at peg 16. Shallow pellet was the winning method again, attracting carp to 5lbs into Dave’s swim and giving a final tally of 137-4-0.

Eric Bancroft added a second to his Thursday first, this time by working paste at 3 metres out from peg 7 on the Beech to net carp to 8lbs as he built a 111-8-0 total. At Beech 20 Kel Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] weighed in 91-0-0 for third, with Gareth Emlyn framing again, as he followed his dad to the prize table by topping the Oak Pool list with 87-3-0 at peg 16.
