BOLDINGS REPORT  26-2-14.

 

         

          At the start of a full match programme at Boldings Pools young rod Jack O’Sullivan [Oakengates Ang Cent] posted the first winning weight of the week to take the Monday open honours. Pegged on the point at Beech 7, Jack operated with pellet and maggot, and included some nice roach with carp in the 1lb to 4lb bracket to build a net of 52-7-0.

          Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] was on Beech 18 and had a mix of carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs, caught on maggot at 10 metres and close to the side, but finished 12lbs shy of the winner on 42-11-0. Tony Woolaston [Kings] had a level 32-0-0 for third, and a Hawthorn best of 27-12-0 put Phil Shaw [PI Boldings] into fourth.

 

          Things were closer on Wednesday when Brian Clark [Colmic Marukyu] collected the coin. Peg 9 on the Beech came up with the goods for Brian, who also included some decent roach in his net, as well as carp to 5lbs, which gave a total of 56-13-0.

          In a repeat of the Monday catches, runner up Mick Keene [ABC] had carp and bream in his 54-3-0 second placed net, which came from Beech 20. Joe Brennan [PI Bold] took his third placed 47-4-0 from Beech 32, and at Beech 5 Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] had 33-9-0 to pick up fourth.

 

          Matt Stobbs [Oak Ang Cent] upped the catch rate on Thursday when the action switched to the Larch Pool and he drew peg 4. Pellet and maggot proved the top bait mix again, and roach featured again, along with carp to 4lbs. When the scales arrived Matt had 74-5-0 to hand over for a clear win.

          Next man along the bank was Eric Bancroft at peg 6, and he collected another runner up purse, with another mix of carp and roach for 47-9-0. Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] has been in the frame virtually every week since the start of the year and was there again , picking up third thanks to 46-11-0 from Larch 25, which left Tony Foster [PI Bold]  to complete the frame with 41-3-0 from Larch 19.    

 

          The Larch provided the winner again on Saturday, this time for Rob Hancox [BD Floats] who found carp to 6lbs with pellet and maggot, offered at 12 metres, and close in. At the end of the match Rob had slipped the net under enough fish to weigh 60-12-0, which gave him almost 10lbs to spare.

          Frame regular Mick Jameson [PI Bold] filled second place with a Beech Pool top score of 50-15-0, which consisted of carp from 1lb to 4lbs, which fell to pellet fished at 4 metres from peg 7. Tony Foster collected again picking up third overall with the best weight from the Chestnut, 49-3-0, which came from peg 30. Back on the Larch Nige Clarke [Matrix TA] scaled 38-15-0 for fourth at peg 4.

 

          Kelvin Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] stuck to a close in attack with maggot at Beech peg 20 on Sunday, and was rewarded with the top weight of the week. Carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs added up 80-1-0, not only the best of the of week, but the best of the year so far.

          Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] adopted maggot feeder tactics at peg 6 on the Larch to fish to the weedbed and close in to the bank. Carp to 5lbs and roach to 1lb responded to give a runner up weight of 68-14-0. BOLDINGS REPORT  18-2-14.

 

          With a bit of winter sunshine to enjoy for a change, in between a few showers, Monday proved to be the best day at Boldings Pools, both weather-wise and in fishing terms. Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] made the most of the improved conditions to post the best weight of the week, 61-6-0.

He was drawn on peg 5 on the Ash Pool and made his winning haul by feeding pellet and maggot at 12 metres, to attract carp from 1lb to 4lbs.

          Eddy Edwards [Dorset AC] was on the opposite side of the pool at peg 18, and used the same bait combination, alternating the 5 metre and 12 metre lines to net a similar stamp of fish to Eric, but not as many, and finished 15lbs short of the mark on 46-9-0.

          Two pegs along from Eddy, Joe Brennan PI Boldings] netted 41-14-0 to finish third, two pounds ahead of last weeks double winner Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] who had 39-14-0 at peg 9.

 

          Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] followed up his Saturday win of last week with victory on this weeks Thursday open, winning from peg 20 on the Beech Pool this time. Like last week, Ken both fed, and baited his hook with maggot to work the 12 metre line as well as using a close in approach. Carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs responded, and at the finish, the scales recorded a level 50-0-0.

          Colin Reynolds was one place off another double when he finished in second this time out. He was on Beech 16, and had carp to 4lbs on pellet, fished close in and at 5 metres, to end the day on 35-13-0.

          Tony Foster [PI Bold] scaled 33-6-0 for third at Beech 7, while 4^th went to an Ash Pool best of 26-1-0 by Adam Slade [Sedgeley]. 

 

          Pete Plant [Maver Midlands] scored from corner peg 1 on the Hawthorn Pool on Saturday to record his first win of 2014, which will no doubt be the first of a good many. He held off the challenge of fellow Maver rod Dave Craggs, finishing seven and a half pounds ahead with 55-9-0.

          Dave was up at the other end of the pool on peg 9 and had had an even 48-0-0 to claim second.
