Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  19-12-12.

The aerators were busy at Boldings Pools, keeping the pools clear of ice on the frosty days. On Wednesday Tony Woolaston [Kings] put in a winning performance on the Oak Pool after he drew peg 1. offering maggot at 13 metres and along the dam wall, he picked off carp in the 1lb to 4lbs bracket, together with roach to a pound establish a 13lbs advantage with 37-6-0.

At the other end of the pool, on peg 23, Colin Wozak [Matrix TA] worked with pellet and maggot at 12 metres, and like the winner included roach of around the pound mark, with carp in his net to weigh 24-2-0. Danny Maxfield [Willenhall] had 18-7-0 from peg 31 for third with fellow Willenhall rod Gary Thomas 4th on 14-9-0 at peg 27.

Weights were similar on the Ash Pool on Thursday when Brian Clark [Colmic Marukyu] presented maggot at 16 metres from peg 6 on the Ash Pool to take an all carp 39-9-0, which was made up with fish to 4lbs.

Opposite Brian, on peg 16, Mick Jameson [Mid Leisure] also fished maggot, which he presented on the 10 metre line, to net a mix of carp to 3lbs and skimmers to 1lb to total 25-13-0. Steph Davies [Tricast Weston] netted 19-3-0 at peg 7 for third and another Weston rod, Mick Keene took 4th with his 11-14-0.

Oak peg 1 came up with another winner on Saturday, with carp and roach again falling to maggot bait. Tony Cook [Bronx] was the man on the peg this time, but he found the fish a little less responsive, giving a final return of 23-9-0.

Round on the point, at peg 29, Dave Cole [Bronx] had carp to 4lbs on pellet and maggot to finish second on 21-0-0. At peg 27 Pete Moss [Rod & Gun] scaled 18-3-0 in third with Phil Rhodes [PI Boldings] 4th on 15-7-0 at peg 11.

There was a big turn-out on Sunday and five different pools gave the top five weights. Wayne Mellings [Maver Midlands] opted for a different approach at Willows peg 17, shunning the usual pole gear and fishing a small maggot feeder. The decision proved to be the right one, giving Wayne top weight of the week and 21lbs over his nearest rival, with a total of 59-2-0, a mix of carp and barbel.

Gary Probert [PI Bold] was that nearest rival when he led the way on the Beech Pool with a level 38-0-0 at peg 16. Gary had his fish, carp to 4lbs, on pellet at 12 metres.

Last weeks Fur & Feather winner Steve Roberts [Oakengates Ang Cent] topped the Ash card with 33-6-0 to finish third overall, on the Oak Mark Lloyd [Oak Ang Cent] was fourth with a pool best of 32-4-0, and on the Hawthorn, Adam Slade [Sedgeley] scaled 31-12-0 in 5th.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  12-12-12.

With ice on most pools at Boldings the Monday and Thursday matches were called off, but the Wednesday open went ahead. It was a low scoring event by Boldings standards, and an Ash Pool best, from peg 16, of 29-11-0 handed victory to Ian Hughes [Drennan NW].

The Beech provided the remaining frame catches, with three close weights filling the places. Second was claimed by Dave Grey [Ind] at peg 20, where he netted 23-9-0 to finish a couple of pounds in front of Mick Jameson [Mid Leisure]. He scaled 21-13-0 at peg 23 to squeeze into third, only one ounce ahead of Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] on 31-12-0 at peg 16.

The Boldings Fur & Feather match on Saturday attracted a record entry, with over 80 anglers lining the banks of the complex and vying for the festive prizes.

Steve Roberts [Oakengates Angling Centre] was the main beneficiary of the day after he established a 10lbs advantage over the rest, by fishing maggot at 10 metres from peg 10 on the Beech Pool, where carp to 6lbs made up a match winning 63-1-0.

Scott Doodson [Preston Innov] fished pellet at peg 1, on the dam wall of the Oak Pool to claim second place. He had carp in the 1lb to 4lbs range for a total of 53-11-0.

Kevin Melville [Matrix Total Angling] had the top catch from the Sycamore, 49-5-0, to take home the third prize. Back on the Beech, Gareth Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] weighed in 42-9-0 at peg 26 to put his name on 4th. Adam Slade [Sedgeley] topped the Chestnut card with 39-11-0 and best on the Larch was Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston Pools] with 37-15-0.

The Beech Pool gave the top weight again on Sunday, and it varied by just one ounce as Chris Holmes [Middle Severn Angling] scaled 63-0-0 at peg 3. Chris fished pellet and maggot at 10 metres and against the paddles, and like the Saturday winner, had carp to 6lbs.

Round at peg 18 on the same pool Alun Jones [Deggys] had carp to 5lbs on pellet at 12 metres and close in to pick up second with 54-12-0. Less than a pound behind second was Mark Taylor [Shakespeare] who had an Ash Pool best of 53-14-0 from peg 16, and Oak peg 1 featured again, giving Craig Goldsmith [Maver Midlands] 51-4-0 for 4th.
