BOLDINGS REPORT  28-8-12.

 

          Only one fish separated first and second places on the Wednesday open, with adjacent pegs on the Hawthorn Pool providing the close finish. At peg 3 Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) worked shallow pellet to induce carp to 5lbs to feed, and at the whistle he had slipped the net under a total of 83-11-0.

          Last Wednesdays winner Josh Humphries was on peg 5, where pellet and corn at 5 metres, combined with close in tactics found carp to 7lbs, but he was left needing one more fish when the end of the match came, and he saw the scales settle at 81-14-0.

Third went to Joe Brennan (PI Boldings) who had the top weight on the Beech, 71-10-0 from peg 7, and back on the hawthorn, Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had 63-2-0 from opposite the winner.

 

          Last Mondays winner Colin Reynolds had more success on Thursday, picking up another win from the Chestnut. This time he was on peg 21, but the same bait combo of pellet and corn, fished close in again, found carp and barbel again, with samples to 8lbs and 3lbs respectively adding up to 125-8-0.

          Around the island at peg 27, Paul Evans (PI Bold) had a mix of carp and barbel on maggot, fished down the side, to claim second with 117-5-0. Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) landed 92-10-0 at peg 32 to finish third, ahead of Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) on 85-6-0 at peg 14.

 

          Top weight of the week on Saturday gave Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) his second August win, and kept him at the top of the Preston points table for the month.

          Gareth drew Wednesdays winning peg, number 3 on the Hawthorn, but didn’t use Wednesdays tactics, opting instead for a close in maggot attack. Carp to 8lbs homed in to give a haul of 155-15-0.

          Peg 5 threw up the second weight again, with Andy Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) also opting for close in maggot to net 125-14-0 of carp to 6lbs. At corner peg 1 Jason Benning (Little Dawley) improved a place on last Saturday, to finish third with 57-6-0, while a Larch top weight of 53-0-0 saw Brian Clark (Marukyu Colmic) in to 4^th.

 

          Chestnut peg 21 proved a winner again on Sunday, this time for Phil Taylor (Dams & Locks) but it was a close call. Carp and barbel featured at the peg again, which Phil tempted with pellet at 4 metres, to scale 130-6-0.

          On the Willows Pool, at peg 16, Scott Doodson (Preston Innov) offered shallow pellet at 12 metres, to finish just 11 ounces short on 129-11-0. Third and fourth also came from the Willows, with Dave Craggs (Maver Midlands) pushing his Preston points score to 15 by finishing third on 123-3-0 at peg 9, and at peg 13, another Maver man, Pete Plant had 116-5-0 to finish 4^th.

 

          Oak Pool pegs gave the top two catches on Bank Holiday Monday, with match winner Mark Taylor (Shakespeare) taking advantage of the paddles at peg 13 to top up his catch from the inside line. Carp to 8 lbs were attracted to his corn and pellet for final figures of 80-3-0.

          At peg 16 Jason Elwell (Phil’s Tackle) found himself a fish short at the whistle when his paste and corn put 76-10-0 of carp to 7 lbs on the scales. Jason Benning collected another third and a Chestnut best by scaling 67-5-0 at peg 26, and Mick Jameson had another 4^th for his 65-1-0 at Chestnut 36.

BOLDINGS REPORT  22-8-12.

 

          First winner of the week at Boldings this week was Richard Duke (Bridgnorth AS) who set the trend for shallow pellet tactics to dominate most of the top weights. Richard used the approach at peg 18 on the Ash Pool on Monday and racked up a weight of 120-12-0 to claim the main prize.

          At peg 14 on the same pool Tony Foster (PI Boldings) also worked shallow pellet to finish a couple of fish behind the winner on 114-12-0. Third placed Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) had top weight from the beech, 93-3-0, and back on the Ash Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) scaled 85-14-0 at peg 23.

 

          Josh Humphries (ABC) had his second Wednesday win of the month when he drew peg 40 on the Chestnut this week. Shallow pellet combined with corn down the side resulted in carp to 8lbs coming to the net for a haul of 131-5-0.

          Round the point at peg 30 Tony Foster added another second to his list with a mix of carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs, caught close in on pellet, which gave him figures of 112-12-0.

          Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) led the catches on the Sycamore to pick up third, his 108-5-0 coming from peg 49, and at peg 22 Brian Clarke (Marukyu Colmic) made it an all ton top four with 101-4-0.

 

          Thursdays winner was Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) who caught carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs on corn and pellet, fished close in at peg 37 on the Sycamore, for a total of 109-7-0.

          Richard Duke was in the mix again, recording a Willow best of 91-11-0 to pick up second. He caught carp to 4lbs on shallow pellet again, fished at 14 metres at peg 4. Peg 34 on the Sycamore provided Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) with 76-15-0 for third, and back on the Willows Josh Humphries framed again, with 71-3-0 for fourth at peg 14.

 

          Dave Craggs (Maver) became the first angler to score two week-end wins this month, to help his Preston points tally for August. He took the honours on Saturday with the top catch of the week, when Ash peg 18 came up with the winner again. Shallow pellet did the trick again, with a lot carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket adding up to 134-3-0, more than double the weight of anyone else.

          The rest of the top four catches came from the Hawthorn, with Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) leading the way. Pellet at 6 metres and close in found carp to 6lbs for 61-10-0 at peg 13. Dave Matson picked up another third when he weighed 56-10-0 at peg 1, and only two ounces behind him was Jason Benning (Little Dawley) on 56-8-0 at peg 3.

 

          Gareth Emlyn (OAC) picked up his third set of Preston points for August with a maximum 6 on Sunday, to move to the top of the table.

He finished clear of the field with a maggot attack at peg 15 on the Larch, where carp to 8lbs homed in on his bait, fished close to the bank, to give a return of 130-7-0.

Carl Jones (Maver) used pellet and paste on the 6 metre line at Larch 7 to weigh in 89-1-0 of carp and skimmers to finish second. Mick Jameson picked up more points for his third placed 88-4-0 at Larch 24.
