Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  4-4-12.

There was a sense of deja vu about the Monday open at Boldings with the top two from last week occupying the same places this week.

Monday specialist Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was top man again, winning from the Willows Pool this time, with another ton up weight. Drawn on peg 8 he fished to the far side and down the side to pick off carp to 7lbs and tench to 2lbs which gave a tally of 100-15-0.

Second for the second time was Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) who was on Willows 19, where pellet on the deck alternated with shallow tactics at 12 metres put 88-7-0 on the scales. Tight behind Sean with a Sycamore best of 87-14-0 at peg 34 was Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) and at peg 2 on the Sycamore Russ Allen (Oswestry) completed the frame with 84-14-0.

Andy Williams (Vespe) had the first of two wins when he topped the list on Wednesday from Beech peg 11. Ghost carp to 6lbs fell to pellet at  8metres and close in for a return of 71-7-0.

Runner up Keith Perrin (Tipton) fished corn and pellet at point peg 7 for 58-6-0 of carp to 5lbs. Third also came from the Beech when Swan JT rod Stuart Aston scaled 54-6-0 at peg 18, with 4th going to an Ash best of 47-9-0 by Bill Stone (Tipton).

Sean Barber made sure he didn’t finish second again when he won the Thursday match with the top score of the week and the year so far, 156-2-0. The big weight came from Sycamore 30, where carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs gave Sean his second successive Thursday win.

Carl Foster (PI Boldings) had carp and barbel in his runner up 84-13-0 at Sycamore 18. Over at Sycamore 39 Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) put 82-11-0 on the scales for third and on the Willows Paul Evans (Willis Worms) had a pool best of 79-5-0 to fill 4th.

The Larch produced the top three weight on Saturday when terry Slater (Baggeridge) put his name on the top prize. Pellet at 4 metres at peg 5 found carp to 8lbs which added up to 97-14-0. Next door at peg 4 Nige Clarke (RAF) worked at 10 metres and close with pellet to net 71-11-0, and just along the bank from the winner, at peg 7 Steve Hall (Oswestry) finished third on 67-12-0. In a close 4th was Martin Davenport (Dorset Pools) with a Hawthorn Pool best of 66-12-0.

Winner of the March Preston Innovations league was Clive Wynn, despite his being absent form the final match, as he was fishing a Maver Classic qualifier at Larford.

Andy Williams scored his second victory of the week in winning the Sunday open, taking maximum Preston points in the first of the April qualifying matches. It was a close run thing, when he was involved in a peg to peg battle with Martin Harrell (Maver).

Andy fished corn and bread at Chestnut 30, taking carp to 10lbs and bream to 3lbs at 10 metres and close, while Martin offered pellet and caster close in and to the island at peg 28. He had all carp to 9lbs and at the whistle things could hardly have been closer, with Andy recording 144-7-0 and Martin 144-3-0.

John Wild (Stafford and Mark Skelton (Oakengates Ang Cent) were also involved in a close finish for third, with John scaling 106-15-0 at Chestnut 18 and Mark had 105-0-0 at Chestnut 26.
