Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  25-1-12.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) is on tremendous form at Boldings Pools and this week added a hat trick of wins to his portfolio, starting with victory on the Monday open on the Oak Pool, when he dispelled the ‘unlucky 13’ superstition. He was on peg 13 and fished pellet at 6 metres to pop 28-15-0 of carp to 3lbs into his net.

Mick Foan (Rod & Gun) also caught carp to 3lbs at peg 3, taking his 25-6-0 from the 8 metre line. Next door at peg 4 Russ Allen (Oswestry) had 13-10-0 for third.

Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) was an emphatic winner on Wednesday, but had to work hard with 16 metre pole and pellet at Ash peg 9, as his 66-9-0 catch consisted of carp in the 1lb to 3lb range.

Keith Powell (Preston Innov Boldings) picked up another placing when he topped the Oak card with a maggot based 35-6-0 from peg 24. Only two ounces behind second was Dave Barnard (R&G) on 35-4-0 at Ash 16 and at Ash 14 John Wild (Stafford) scaled 27-7-0 in 4th.

Mick Jameson took his second victory of the week on Thursday when he won by a similar margin to that of Monday. This time he was on the Hawthorn Pool, and had to overcome superstition again after drawing number 13 once more. He set about the peg with pellet, alternated between 5 metres and 9 metres, and found carp to 5lbs for a total of 54-11-0.

At Hawthorn peg 7 Carl Foster (PI Bold) fished pellet and maggot to the island and down the side for 51-6-0 of carp to 7lbs. Third went to a Middle Pool best catch of 49-8-0 made by Rob Hancox (Kings) at peg 3 and a Deepdale best of 38-10-0 put Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) in the frame.

The Jameson hat trick was completed on Saturday when he won from the Middle Pool. Pellet at 6 metres attracted carp to 5lbs to give a return of 62-14-0 at peg 11.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) fished pellet to the island at Hawthorn 5 for mostly small carp and a bonus fish of 6lbs which helped him to second place on 58-0-0. Ash pegs 16 and 14 provided third and fourth weights for the second time in the weeks proceedings. Mark Stevens (Tipton) had 16 this time and scaled 50-5-0 in third and Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) was 4th at 14 with 46-0-0.

Colin Reynolds moved up from 4th on Thursday to first on Sunday and just got top weight of the week when he scaled 67-7-0 at Stock peg 7.

Mark Stevens and John Wild both made the frame again, Mark picking up second from Stock peg 11 where he netted 64-12-0 and John getting third with a Middle Pool best of 55-2-0 from peg 3.  Mitch Davidson (Oak Ang Cent) completed the final frame of the week with 44-12-0 at Middle peg 8.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  17-1-12.

First place on the Monday open at Boldings Pools fell to Godfrey Wood (Maver Total Angling) when he weighed in 41-5-0 at Chestnut peg 38. Carp to 7lbs featured in Godfrey's catch, which he took on pellet at 12 metres and maggot in the margins.

Oswestry rod Russ Allen operated with similar tactics at peg 34 where smaller carp, with samples to 5lbs gave him 37-13-0 for second.

Round at the back of the island, on peg 23, Gerry Powell (Oakengates Ang Cent) netted 32-0-0 for third and at peg 10 Keith Powell (Preston Innov Boldings) had 28-14-0 to complete the frame.

Colin Wozak (Telford) enjoyed a win on Wednesday when he fished maggot and pellet on a straight lead at peg 49 on the Sycamore. Carp to 4lbs and bream to 3lbs obliged to give Colin a return of 44-7-0.

At peg 39 on the long bank of the Sycamore Rino Stanko (Oak Ang Cent) worked the 8 metre line as well as close in to the side with maggot and pellet to pick off carp to 5lbs and barbel to 2lbs for his second placed 38-0-0.

Last weeks double winner Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) scaled 33-15-0 for third at Sycamore 36 and a Beech top score of 32-5-0 gave Neil Mansfield (Wem) 4th.

Having picked up a second and a third last week Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall)  moved up to take a first on Thursday when the weights held up despite the onset of wintry weather. Fishing across to the far bank from peg 2 on the Stock Pool, Pete had carp in the 1lb to 4lb bracket to build his 44-4-0 winner.

Darren Frost (Drennan NW) fished close in and at 10 metres at Stock peg 4 for a net of carp to 3lbs which gave a total of 41-8-0 for second. At Stock 11 Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) scaled 39-7-0 in third with Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) just behind with a Hawthorn best of 38-8-0.

Dave Brown (Maver) made the Willows a winner after drawing peg 5 on the pool and working it with maggot at 16 metres to find carp to 5lbs. After a slow start on a cold day, Dave caught well in the second half of the match to finish on 56-12-0, which gave him maximum Preston league points.

Danny Boden (Oak Ang Cent) was on peg 21 on the Chestnut where maggot, fished to the island brought in carp to 6lbs and kept him in touch with the winner for most of the day, but he was left needing one more fish at the whistle when his net scaled 51-8-0.

Steve Millward (MTA) led the way on the Sycamore Pool to take third overall, his 46-12-0 coming from peg 44, while at peg 8 Jamie Langford (Maver) had 45-6-0 for 4th.

Weights held up well on Sunday despite the icy conditions and Dave Emlyn (Oak Ang Cent) needed every one of his fish to stay ahead of the opposition. He was on Ash peg 9 and fed maggot at 8 metres and down the side to attract carp to 6lbs on his way to 53-3-0.

At Beech peg 23 John Wild (Stafford) fed pellet at 5 metres and maggot close in, and matched the winner fish for fish, but smaller samples, fish to 5lbs, left him a couple of pounds short on 51-4-0.

Dave Brown added three more Preston points to the six he scored on Saturday when he filled third place with 44-12-0 from Ash 18, and Gareth Emlyn, brother of the winner was a close 4th on 44-2-0 at Ash 14.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  11-1-12.

Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) began 2012 with an emphatic win on the Bank Holiday open at Boldings Pools. He drew peg 40 on the Sycamore and was soon pulling clear of the rest with carp to 5lbs responding to his maggot attack on the 13 metre line, alternated with close in tactics. Fish came regularly throughout most of the match and by the time the finishing claxon sounded Steve had 90-11-0 to hand over to the scales.

Over on point peg 13 Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) worked pellet at 5 metres and maggot at 12 metres to attract carp to 6lbs and skimmers to 2lbs but couldn’t maintain the same catch rate as the winner and ended the day on 52-8-0 in second.

Mark Lloyd (Oak Ang Cent) was in corner peg 6 where 42-3-0 gave him third and just behind him, with a Chestnut Pool best of 42-1-0 was Scott Doodson (Preston Innovations).

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) completed a mid week double, with victories on Wednesday and Thursday, and each time he was followed by Tony Foster (Preston Innov Boldings).

Wednesday saw Mick on corner peg 6 on the Sycamore where mostly small carp on pellet at 5 metres and in the side gave figures of 46-6-0. Tony was on Middle peg 9 and had carp to 4lbs on pellet at 8 metres and close in for 33-5-0.

Third went to Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) when he weighed a level 32-0-0 at Sycamore 11 and at Sycamore 9 Shane Rogers (Oak Ang Cent) had 27-14-0 for 4th.

Thursday was a much closer contest when both Jameson and Foster were pegged on the Sycamore, and at the finish there was only a 5 ounce difference in their weights.

Mick drew peg 3 this time and offered pellet at 4 metres to attract carp from 1lb to 4lbs for a final tally of 40-14-0.

Tony had the peg Mick had won from the previous day, number 6, and had small carp and barbel on maggot feeder for his 40-9-0.

Clive Wynn and Howard Williams both traveled down from Weston Pools, and each returned with a share of the prize money, Clive picking up third fro his 35-11-0 from Sycamore 33 and Howard getting fourth with a Beech best of 34-13-0.

Carp to 7lbs helped Dave Cole (PI Boldings) to a clear victory on Saturday, when his was the only frame weight to come from the Chestnut Pool. Switching between the 6 metre and 10 metre lines with maggot at peg 30 put 51-1-0 on the scales for Dave’s win.

Kevin Melville (MTA) was top man on the Larch and second overall when he weighed in 35-4-0 at peg 1. His fish also fell to maggot, and from 12 metres as well as close in.

Mel Kitson had another third and topped the Sycamore card with 29-15-0 from peg 33 and just behind him, on 29-10-0 at Larch peg 5 was Josh Humphries (ABC).

On Sunday Gary Morris (PI Bold) fished the channel and close in with pellet at Sycamore 40 to win with 51-14-0 of carp to 5lbs. Dave Barnard (R&G) was on the end of the dam on the Oak Pool where a catch of small carp at 5metres and along the dam gave him 42-0-0 for second. Pete Ricketts made the frame again with another pool best, 40-15-0 from Beech 14. Also on the Beech was 4th placed Dave Pritchard (PI Bold) with a weight of 40-8-0.
