Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  2-11-11.

The Springlea Winter League got under way on Sunday with a first round victory for Maver Total Angling. They finished top of the seven team list with 9 points, with Butterys Flyers second on 11. One behind Butterys were Oakengates Angling Centre with 12 points, Springlea finished on 14 in 4th and Greyheads completed the top five with 20.

Top individual and winner of C section for Total Angling was Robbie Griffiths at peg 37 on the Orfe Pool, where carp to 4lbs made up nearly two thirds of his weight, with the remaining 20lbs being silver fish. Second in the section, and second overall went to Mike Williams (Springlea) who weighed in 50-14-0 at peg 10.

Winner of A section was Richard Lawson (Oak Ang Cent) who landed 7 carp averaging almost 6lbs apiece to total 41-10-0. Richard caught on corn, fished close in at peg 5 on the Mallard. Arthur Wood (Greyheads) filled second spot from peg 41 where he scaled 38-11-0.

Mike Buttery did a captains job for his Flyers, winning B section with 33-4-0 from mallard 32, ahead of John Edwards (Springlea) on 24-0-0 at peg 34.

In D section Brian Clarke (Oak Ang Cent) had a lot of bits on the pole, backed up by three good carp on method feeder to win with 34-3-0

Weights on the Monday Affordable open at Boldings Pools reflected the change to Autumn weather with a big drop on the previous week.

It lead to an interesting frame on the Beech Pool though, with less than a pound and a half difference between first and fourth places.

First went to Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) by virtue of the fact that his fish ran just a bit bigger than those of runner up Gerry Powell (Oakengates Ang Cent). Both fished pellet at 5 metres and into the side, with Dave contacting carp to 6lbs at peg 11 and Gerry having carp to 5lbs at peg 26. At the finish Dave had 43-10-0 and Gerry 42-10-0.

Last weeks winner Harry Colley (Preston Innov Boldings) had well under a third of his winning weight this time, finishing on 42-7-0 in third place at peg 9, with Graham Evason (PI Bold) just behind him on 42-3-0 at peg 20.

Tony Foster (PI Bold) had top weight of the week to win the Wednesday open, which was held on the back pools. Tony drew peg 2 on the Stock and found the fish with pellet, netting carp to 5lbs on the 5 metre line and from the margins to weigh 89-0-0.

On the Middle Pool Matt Stobbs (Oak Ang Cent) fished to the corner and to the left of the peg with maggot and pellet for a net of carp to 6lbs totalling 77-12-0.

Diagonally opposite Matt, at peg 1 Gary Morris (PI Bold) had 63-6-0 for third and at Stock peg 10 Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) collected 4th for his 37-9-0.

Matt Stobbs moved up to first place on Thursday when the action moved to the Sycamore Pool and he pulled peg 25 from the bag. Employing maggot and pellet again, and fishing to each side of the peg, Matt found carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs which added up to 67-12-0.

On the opposite bank Fellow OAC rod Rino Stanko worked pellet at 9 metres at peg 37 where he included bream to 4lbs with carp to 6lbs in a 63-11-0 runner up net.

Around at peg 47 Tim Probert (PI Bold) finished one fish behind Rino on 59-11-0 and in the corner at peg 50 Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) scaled 56-2-0 to secure 4th.

Brian Clarke (Marukyu Vespe) prevented Dave Matson from scoring a double win when he beat him by the narrowest of margins on the Saturday open. They were drawn on different pools, with Brian on the Sycamore and Dave on the Beech, but both selected similar tactics, working the 5 metre line, alternated with a close in approach.

Brian combined pellet and maggot at Sycamore 24 to net carp to 7lbs for a final tally of 62-11-0. Dave had smaller samples at Beech peg 5 which left him a tantalising one ounce short on 62-10-0.

Colin Wozak (Telford) posted 56-10-0 for third at Beech 32 and back on the Sycamore Gareth Emlyn (Oak Ang Cent) finished off the top four with 52-11-0 at peg 37.

Shallow caster proved to be the top method on Sunday with the top two both employing it. Pete Plant (Maver) fished into the corner at peg 50 on the Sycamore while Eric Bancroft (R&G) went out to 8 metres at peg 37 on the Chestnut.

Once again a better stamp of fish made the difference between fist and second, with carp to 7lbs giving Pete figures of 85-2-0 while Eric had to settle for 79-11-0.

Dave Craggs was only 3 ounces behind second with his Oak Pool best of 78-7-0 and Mark Lloyd (Oak Ang Cent) was a close 4th on 77-14-0 at Sycamore 47.

Sixth place on this match was good enough to ensure Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) stayed top of the October Preston Innovations league, but Mark Lloyd finished up pushing him hard and finishing a close second.
