BOLDINGS REPORT
Ice breaking with a JCB helped to get things moving again at Boldings Pools last week, and with the paddles also beginning to work again, anglers were able to wet a line last Wednesday, when the first match for nearly three weeks was staged.
Keith Powell (OB Wolves) found a few carp and roach in the arctic conditions, with carp to 4lbs and roach to 12 ounces accepting his maggot bait, fished to the edge of the ice, to give an 18-14-0 top score at Ash peg 12.
Tim Probert (OBW) employed similar tactics at Ash 5 to find roach of the same size together with carp to 2lbs for his second placed 13-15-0. Gary Morris made it three OBW rods at the top of the frame when he scaled
Ash peg 12 came up with a similar winning weight the following day when Tim Probert moved up from second to first. Carp and roach featured again, with carp to 5lbs and roach to 1lb adding up to
Gary Morris also moved up a place after drawing Ash 14 again, even though his weight was down on the previous day. He shared second with Matt Stockton (Maver) when both were credited with
Mick Keene (Weston Pools) took top spot on Friday as weights began to improve, and his maggot and pellet approach at 6 metres at Ash 3 netted carp to 3lbs and chub to 2lbs for 23-15-0.
Richard Lawson made the second of three placings when his mix of carp and chub at Ash 5 came to
Richard Lawson became the first winner of 2011 when he finished 14 ounces ahead of Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) on |Saturday.
Both caught carp and chub on maggot and pellet, with Richard having the benefit of slightly larger carp at Ash 9 to record 26-0-0, while Colin finished on
Brian Clarke picked up third thanks to 14-14-0 from Ash 3 and 4th went to Jerry Powell (Thomas Telford) on
Brian Clarke saved his best til last to take victory on Sunday with the top weight of the week. Fishing maggot and pellet at 6 metres and 10 metres, he moved clear of the field to end the day with a level 38-0-0 of carp to 4lbs at Ash peg 6.
Alan Naylor (Oakengates Ang Cent) also fished the 6 and 10 mete lines at Ash 5 for carp to 4lbs on maggot to finish second on
Tim Probert was in the top four again, collecting third this time with a level 17-0-0 from Ash 17. A Hawthorn top catch of
