Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  25/1/11.

With the pools freezing over again in mid-week at Boldings, the best weights came at the beginning and end of the match programme.

Gary Morris (OB Wolves) started the week with a 46-7-0 winner on Monday, when the Chestnut Pool was utilised. Gary drew peg 18, which he tackled with 12 metre pole and maggot bait. Carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs responded to provide him with the top score.

Eddie Edwards (Dorset Pools) also presented maggot at 12 metres at peg 15, where the carp ran a little smaller, leaving him just short on 43-6-0. A level 35-0-0 at peg 32 gave Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) third, with last Sundays winner Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) 4th on 32-12-0 at peg 15,

The ice was back again by Wednesday, and only Brian Clarke (Maver) matched the average weight of Monday, taking the honours with 40-2-0 taken on maggot, fished at 6 metres and to the island at Chestnut 28.

Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) alternated 3 metres and 12 metres with maggot at peg 9 to take second with 27-14-0. Tony Foster (OBW) finished third for the second Wednesday on the trot when he scaled 24-13-0 at peg 32 and Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) had 24-6-0 for 4th at peg 28.

Weights continued a downward trend on Thursday when the Beech and Ash pools were used. The Beech provided the winner for Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) with the Ash giving the remaining frame weights.

Ted drew on the point on the Beech, where his win was greatly helped by the fact that the carp nicknamed wideload put in an appearance, at a weight of 23lbs 8ozs. Hooking a fish as big as that is one thing, landing it on pole tackle can be another, but Ted was up to the task, and wideload pushed final total to 28-1-0 on a hard day.

The big fish prevented Dave Barnard (R&G) from scoring his second consecutive Thursday win, and he had to settle for second with his Ash Pool best of 19-0-0 from peg 7. Kevin Melville (Maver Total Angling) collected third thanks to 15-4-0 from Ash 5 and Steve Roberts framed again with 14-10-0 from Ash 12.

Ice breakers were in action on Saturday when temperatures dropped to minus 4c, but weights were up on the Thursday levels, with the Larch Pool proving best.

Stu Ballard and Pete Plant (both Maver Midlands) swapped places from last Saturday, and this time it was Stu who picked up the top prize, while Pete collected second.

Both caught carp and skimmers, but Stu benefited from a better stamp of carp to edge ahead at peg 4, where he included fish to 5lbs, caught on maggot at 8 metres and 12 metres to finish on 38-6-0.

Pete had all his fish from the 13 metre line on maggot and caster, at peg 15, with samples to 3lbs adding up to 37-0-0. next to Pete Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) had 29-11-0 at peg 14 for third, fourth placed Tim Probert (OBW) had 26-13-0 at peg 5, and best on the Ash was 24-10-0 from Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure).

Weights continued an upward trend on Sunday, with three different pools giving the top three catches. Winner Richard Lawson (Maver) finished 15 lbs clear after opting for a waggler and maggot approach at Chestnut 38, where carp to 7 lbs added up to 57-7-0.

Matt Stobbs (OAC) topped the Sycamore list with carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs, caught close in on maggot at peg 50 and scaling 42-11-0.

Scott Doodson (Preston Innovations) headed the Larch carp with 40-2-0 from peg 4, and 39-10-0 from \Sycamore 6 gave Nige Clarke (Trabuco) 4th ahead of last weeks winner Eric Bancroft on 37-8-0 at Chestnut 30.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  18/1/11.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) probably won more Monday opens at Boldings Pools last year than anyone else, and he started 2011 in the same vein, scoring a clear win the first Monday match to be staged so far.

Colin drew peg 15 on the Larch and made the most of being on the point to net carp to 5lbs and roach to 1lb using maggot and pellet at 12 metres for a total of 52-6-0.

Next door, at peg 16, Harry Colley (OB Wolves) fished maggot at 10 metres, and he too found a mix of carp and roach for 25-13-0. Kevin Melville (Maver Total Angling) picked up third thanks to 17-14-0 from peg 6 and Graham Evason (OBW) finished off the frame with 13-14-0 from peg 4.

The Beech and Stock pools proved more difficult on Wednesday and 19-10-0 from Beech 16 was enough to hand victory to Stuart Aston (Swan JT). He fished maggot at 10 metres to find carp to 3lbs and skimmers to around the pound mark.

Runner up Phil Shaw was on the Stock Pool and used similar tactics to the winner to scale 17-8-0, which was made up with carp to 2lbs and roach to 1lb, at peg 10.

Tony and Carl Foster (both OBW) took third and fourth, Tony having 10-11-0 at Beech 14 and Carl 9-0-0 at Beech 9.

Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) had the best open weight of the week to win the Thursday match on the Larch. He opted for a pellet approach as the temperatures were rising, a move which paid off with a lot of carp in the 1lb to 3lbs range from the 9 metre line, which added up to 72-4-0.

Harry Colley picked up another second prize with another pellet fed catch, which came from peg 7. Like the winner he fished pellet, taking fish of a similar stamp at 6 metres, to scale 41-12-0. Third went to Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) on 38-4-0 at peg 23, and 4th to Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) who weighed 31-7-0 at peg 5.

Winter League team members boosted the numbers on Saturday, and Maver Midlands men dominated the frame, with only Dave Barnard and Steve Roberts  preventing a clean sweep of the top six places.

Maver rods took the first three prizes, with Pete Plant claiming first with a level 45-0-0, taken on maggot, fished down the side of Hawthorn peg 7, in two feet of water.

Stu Ballard topped the Ash card with carp and roach on maggot at 10 metres for 37-12-0 at peg 7. Next to Ballard, at Ash peg 5, Andy Bayliss- Kyte was a close third on 36-15-0.

Dave Barnard nippe3d in to take 4th with his 29-3-0 at Ash 3, ahead Maver's Sean Barber on 27-15-0 at Ash 18, and Steve Roberts wrapped things up with a Stock Pool best of 27-10-0.

The open honours on Sunday went to Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) who caught carp to 5lbs and bream to 3lbs at Sycamore peg 33. Maggot, alternated between 6 metres and 10 metres helped Eric to net 41-3-0, to beat a trio of catches from the Chestnut Pool.

Tim Kibble (Kings) had the best of these at 33-9-0, which consisted of carp to 4lbs and skimmers to 1lb, which were caught on maggot at 10 metres and close in at peg 17.

Steve Swift (OBW) stepped up for third prize after scaling 29-8-0 at Chestnut 38 and Steve King (Kings) had 27-13-0 for 4th at peg 14 to complete the week.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  11/1/11.

The weeks began proceedings began on Wednesday at Boldings Pools with a surprisingly good catch in the difficult conditions when Gary Morris (OB Wolves) beat the 50lbs mark, posting a 50-6-0 total to win from peg 4 on the Ash.

Tony Foster (OBW) was on Ash 6 where 21 -9-0 gave him second, six pounds ahead of Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) on 15-9-0 at Ash 9.

The going was a good deal harder the following day and 12-14-0 of carp to 2lbs on maggot and pellet was enough to hand victory to Richard Noakes (Maver) at Ash peg 6.

Close behind the winner was Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) with a mix of carp and skimmers for 12-8-0 at Ash 17, and third went to 10-5-0 from Danny Boden (Oakengates Ang Cent) at Ash 5.

Keith Powell (OBW) followed up his mid week win of last week by taking the honours on Saturday this week in another tough encounter which saw him take a four pounds advantage over the rest. Fishing pellet and at 12 metres he found carp to 2lbs at Ash 5 to finish with 15-1-0.

Almost opposite the winner at Ash 16, Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) alternated between 5 metres and 12 metres with maggot to put 11-2-0 of skimmers and carp to 2lbs on the scales for 11-2-0 to claim second. Neil Probert (Wolverhampton) just got third by 3 ounces from Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) when he scaled 10-8-0 at Ash 18, while Gareth had a Beech Pool best of 10-5-0.

Despite a hard overnight frost weights improved on Sunday when Richard Lawson (Maver) headed a big turn-out to follow up his win on Saturday last week.

This time it was the Beech Pool which came up with the winning catch, with Richard netting carp to 4lbs on maggot for 26-13-0 at peg 14.

Runner Up Sean Barber (Maver / Sonubaits) was top man on the Ash with 22-10-0 on maggot and pellet at peg 4. Back on the Beech Pete Plant made it a Maver top three by scaling 20-2-0 at peg 9 and Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) finished things off with 18-2-0 at Ash 6.

With all the pools clearing, the re-arranged 5th round of the |Shropshire Winter League will be held at Boldings this Sunday.
