Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 20/7/10.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) headed an  Oak Pool frame on Monday at Boldings with 120-12-0but was less than an ounce ahead of runner up Harry Colley (OB Wolves). Carl was one side of the island on peg 22 and Harry was on the other side at peg 18.

Corn and pellet was the bait combination used by Carl to attract carp to 7lbs at his peg, while Harry offered pellet and meat for carp to 8lbs. When the scales had done their work, Harry was credited with 119-15-0, just 14 ounces short of a winning total.

Another OBW rod picked up third when Graham Evason put 110-2-0 on the scales at peg 1, which left last Sundays winner Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) to collect 4th with his 91-10-0 at peg 27.

Wednesday saw Foster add 27lbs to his Monday weight, but his 147-1-0 wasn’t enough to give him a double top as Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had a haul of 168-5-0. Pete was on peg 11 on the Hawthorn and fished paste to the island as well as in the side to find carp to 8lbs.

Carl fished corn and paste close in at peg 15 for his weight, which included carp to 7lbs. Just behind Carl was Mark Mountford (Shifnal) on 145-12-0 at peg 1 and Bob Tromans made it an all ton Hawthorn frame with 102-11-0 at peg 13.

On Thursday the Beech and Oak pools gave two frame weights each, with the Beech providing the top two. First went to Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) who was on the ‘spit’, at peg 5 and worked corn at 5 metres and close in. Carp to 8lbs accepted the bait to give a winning return of 83-6-0.

On the opposite bank from the winner, at peg 32, Andy Williams (Vespe) combined corn with pellet, fished close in and at 7 metres to net carp to 7lbs on his way to 76-10-0 and second place.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) was just 4 ounces behind second with his Oak Pool best of 76-6-0 at peg 29, and Tony Foster (OBW) finished things off with 68-2-0 at Oak 16.

Less than two and a half pounds separated the top three on Saturday when the Beech gave top weight again. Caster was the winning bait this time, giving Pete Plant (Maver) a 2lb advantage over Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools). Pete used his shallow caster technique at peg 23 to build a winning total of 85-1-0 with fish to 6lbs.

Kevin had bigger fish on corn and pellet, fished close in at peg 16, where fish to 8lbs added up to 83-0-0.

Alan Naylor (OAC Ants Bait) prevented an all Beech frame by taking third with an Ash Pool best of 82-11-0 from peg 16, then it was back to the Beech for the 78-5-0 which gave Dave Matson (R&G) 4th.

Sycamore peg 10 came up with a 110-8-0 winner on Sunday after John Wild (Stafford) tackled it with corn and pellet, fished to each side of the peg. Carp and bream showed a liking for the feed john offered, with carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs finding their way into his net.

Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) used the same tactics as the winner at peg 21, and he too had a mix of carp and bream, with similar sized bream and carp to 9lbs to finish with 99-11-0.

Pete Ricketts made the frame again, adding a third place to his mid-week win by scaling 90-11-0 at Sycamore 13, and a Chestnut top score of 81-3-0 gave Ed Turner (OBW) 4th.
