Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 8/6/10.

There were plenty of big weights at Boldings this week, with all bar one of the opens being won with over 100lb.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) set the ball rolling on Monday when he made the most of one of the form pegs, number 33 on the Sycamore, which he tackled with pellet and paste, fished at 5 metres and close in, to tempt carp to 8lbs on his way to 105-6-0.

Fellow Rod & Gun man John Francis carried on his run since his winter lay off with a Chestnut best of 81-12-0 for second overall. Just behind John, on 79-9-0, came Graham Roberts (OB Wolves) at Sycamore 48, and 56-10-0 from Chestnut 21 gave Alan Weston (Chuckey) fourth.

Ian Hughes (Shimano Wales) had the top weight of the week of Wednesday when the Hawthorn and Middle pools were used. Ian was on peg 11 on the Hawthorn and fished to the island with pellet for a haul of carp to 8lbs which totalled 121-15-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) a winner last Thursday and second on the Wednesday match last week, was second again with a weight of 91-6-0, which came to pellet, close in and at 5 metres at Hawthorn  peg 7.

Last Wednesdays winner Mark Mountford (Shifnal) was top scorer on the Middle Pool and third overall with 80-12-0 at peg 1, and back on the Hawthorn, Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had 72-10-0 for 4th at peg 13.

Mick Jameson moved up to top spot on Thursday, winning from Sycamore peg 25 and heading a ton-up top three. He fished pellet at 5 metres and in the margins to find carp to 10lbs on his way to 118-12-0.

Pete Ricketts was second again and Sycamore 33 featured for the second time when he handed 103-1-0 to scalesman. Only five ounces behind second was John Wild (Stafford) on 102-12-0 at Sycamore 39, and Dave Craggs (OBW) was less than half a pound off the ton with 99-9-0 at Chestnut 21.

Weights dipped a little on Saturday when 80-5-0 from Sycamore 47 put Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) at the top of the card. Pellet, fished shallow and down the edge put carp to 7lbs in Sean’s net.

Jamie Langford (OBW) had carp to 8lbs and small barbel on pellet at Sycamore 16 for 73-3-0 to fill second spot. Last Saturdays winner Harry Colley (OBW) had a Larch best of 65-7-0 for third and Dave Matson (R&G) finished in 4th on 63-7-0 at Sycamore 25.

Dave Craggs swapped 4th on Thursday for first on Sunday when his shallow caster approach put 115-13-0 on the scales to make Sycamore 33 a winner again. Carp to 9lbs and bream to 4lbs made up the catch.

John Wild  framed again with second ton of the week, and Sycamore 25 featured for the second day running, returning 100-11-0 for Dave. Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) was best on the Chestnut, scaling 87-13-0 at peg 9 and Phil Rhodes (Mid Leisure) completed the weeks frames with 87-7-0 at Chestnut 17.
