Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 26/5/10.

The rise in temperatures with the arrival of some summery weather at last has triggered the fishes spawning instinct and many fisheries have seen catches affected, but not Boldings Pools, where all five of the weeks opens were won with over 100lbs.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) set the trend with a high scoring win on the Monday open on the Hawthorn Pool. Drawn on peg 5, Colin had the fish feeding well on his pellet bait, fished at 4 metres, and carp to 8lbs added up to 125-1-0.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) finished second for the second week running and he was close to the ton with 97-2-0, taken on pellet fished to each side of peg 10. Graham Evason (OB Wolves) took third with 73-3-0 at peg 3 and Carl Foster OBW) was a close 4th on 70-1-0 at peg 9.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) added to his double win of a fortnight ago by winning again on Wednesday. Pellet, fished shallow and down the edge at Sycamore peg45 had carp and bream lining up to the tune of 127-13-0.

Phil Shaw finished in second place again with another good weight, 95-8-0 on pellet at Sycamore 36.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was on the Willows Pool, almost back to back with the winner at peg 16 where a pool best of 82-10-0 gave third overall, and another Willows catch, 76-14-0 at peg 8 put Alan Jones (Deggys) into 4th.

Colin Reynolds was back at the top of the list again on Thursday, this time at peg 8 on the Sycamore. Pellet at 4 metres and to each side of the point put 116-10-0 of carp to 9lbs in the net for his second victory of the week.

John Wild (Rod & Gun) took over from Phil Shaw in second place when he recorded a Chestnut best of 93-11-0 at peg 32, then it was back to the Sycamore for third man Steve Roberts (Oak Ang Cent) whose 81-1-0 came from peg 4. Wednesdays winner Pete Ricketts was close behind Steve on 80-14-0 at Chestnut 16.

The Chestnut and Beech pools provided the top two catches on Saturdays big Fish O’ Mania qualifier on Saturday when 130 anglers from all over the Country lined the Boldings banks.

Richard Hoskins found corner peg 40 on the Chestnut packed with carp to 8lbs and hauled in 143-3-0 of them to book his place in the Fish O’ final.

Not far behind was popular Boldings regular Pete Plant (Maver) who had to work hard with his favourite shallow caster method at peg 32 on the Beech to net carp in the 1lb to 6lb range, and ended the day on 136-0-0. Third went to Adam Richards at Stock peg 1 where he put 103-13-0 on the scales and Mick Bull made it a ton up top four with 101-6-0 at Hawthorn 5.

Pete Plant recorded another 100 on Sunday when winning from Oak peg 1. Shallow caster did the trick again, giving a return of 122-5-0 for an easy win.

Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) just pipped fellow Dorset rod Martin Davenport to second, when both men recorded pool bests. Kevin scaled 51-9-0 at Chestnut 21 and martin 51-0-0 at Sycamore 4. That left Gareth Emlyn (Oak Ang Cent) to complete the week with 49-10-0 for 4th at Sycamore 22.

BOLDINGS REPORT 19/5/10.

Ian Hughes (Shimano Wales) picked up another win at Boldings Pools when he visited the fishery on Monday, taking the honours at peg 30 on the Chestnut. Shallow fished maggot attracted the fish, with carp to 7lbs making up a winning total of 64-5-0.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) was over on peg 16 and fished pellet at 5 metres and close in to find carp to 5lbs to claim second with 62-13-0. Last weeks Thursday winner Harry Colley (OB Wolves) had 59-0-0 from peg 28 to finish third and Gary Brown (West Midlands) was on the opposite side of the island at peg 21 where he weighed 58-8-0 in 4th.

Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) put together the top weight of the week at Boldings on Wednesday after drawing peg 33 on the Sycamore. Carp to 9lbs and bream to 4lbs found Dave’s pellet bait to their liking and 115-0-0 of them found their way to his net.

On the other side of the pool Graham Roberts (OBW) also worked with pellet on the hook to take fish close in and at 8 metres for his 72-3-0 runner up. Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was a close third on 71-0-0 at peg 39 and Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) kept things tight with 69-4-0 at peg 13.

Shane Rogers (OAC Sonubaits) converted a second place on the Saturday open last week to a first this week. Using corn and pellet fished at 12 metres, Shane netted carp to and bream at peg 24 on the Sycamore to scale 86-5-0.

Carl Foster (OBW) fished pellet close to the weeds at peg 15 on the Larch to take a level 69-0-0 for second place, and just around the point, at peg 18, Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) added to his County points tally with a third placed 56-8-0.

Back on the Sycamore Alan Moors netted 51-9-0 for 4th at peg 48.

Sunday saw Eric Bancroft (R&G) top the list from peg 30 on the Chestnut, using a pellet and paste approach. Fishing at 5 metres and into the bank, Eric picked off carp to 5lbs, which built up to a 93-9-0 winning total.

Sycamore 48 featured again to give John Wild (Stafford) second place with another paste based catch. He had carp to 8lbs at 5 metres for 88-3-0. Gary Morris (OBW) was a close third with 86-3-0 at Chestnut 21, and Paul Evans (Willis Worms) completed a tight frame with 84-0-0 at Chestnut 23.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 11/5/10.

The Ash and the Beech Pools at Boldings both hit form on Sunday to give a terrific frame, with the top four all topping the ton mark, and the fifth placed man was less than half a pound short.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) enjoyed a highly successful week at the fishery following up a mid-week win and a third place on the Saturday open by taking the top catch of the week to win the high scoring match on Sunday.

He was on peg 5 on the Ash and caught almost from the off using shallow pellet tactics, which accounted for a string of carp to 8lbs which added up to 146-12-0.

Up towards the corner on the opposite bank of the Ash, Simon Richardson (Maver) was also catching well on pellet, fished shallow in open water and close in. He had carp to 7lbs to scale 114-2-0 for second. Matt Djukic (Maver) led the way on the Beech Pool with 110-0-0 at peg 5 to pick up third, and back on the Ash Graham Roberts (OB Wolves) had 105-5-0 in 4th at peg 7.

At the start of the week Dave Brown (Maver) claimed the coin on the Bank Holiday open when his shallow caster attack at peg 21 on the Chestnut resulted in a total of 88-13-0 dropping into the net, the catch consisting of carp to 7lbs.

Not far behind, with a Sycamore best of 81-9-0 was Shane Rogers (Sonubaits) who took his fish from each side of peg 13. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had 65-5-0 at Sycamore 33 for third, and Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) was 4th with an Oak Pool top score of 54-4-0.

Pete Ricketts took his mid-week win on Wednesday, when the back pools were used and he was close to another ‘ton’ with 99-5-0 from Deepdale peg 14. There were a lot of fish in Pete’s net, ranging from 1lb to 5lbs, all of which came to paste fished close in.

Mick Jameson moved up a place from third on Monday to finish second this time when he put together a Middle pool top weight of 89-15-0, fishing pellet to each side of peg 3. Third place went to another pool best when Carl Foster (OB Wolves) scaled 89-4-0 at Hawthorn peg 11, with Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) completing the frame with 86-12-0 at Deepdale 3.

Harry Colley (OBW) followed up his |Sunday win of last week with a Thursday win this week, putting meat and pellet to good use again, this time at peg 33 on the Sycamore. Carp to 9lbs took the bait, which was offered close in, to give a final figure of 96-9-0.

On the opposite bank, at peg 22 Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) worked shallow pellet for 73-6-0 of carp to 7lbs to finish second, just in front of Eric Bancroft (R&G) whose 71-1-0 was best catch on the Chestnut, coming from peg 32. Two pounds behind Eric was Ed Turner (OBW) on 69-1-0 at Sycamore 25.

Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) finished 22lbs clear of the field on Saturday after drawing Ash 16, where he built a 96-2-0 winning haul, with carp in the 1lb to 6lb range. Andy fished maggot and pellet, alternating between close in and shallow in open water.

Shane Rogers collected his second runner prize with a Hawthorn top weight of 74-2-0 at peg 3, Pete Ricketts was in the cash list again with 73-11-0 at Hawthorn 9 and Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) pocketed 4th prize with 64-12-0 at Ash 3.
