Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 20/4/10.

Weights at Boldings pools are reflecting the better weather, with plenty of big catches being recorded in this weeks opens at the complex.

Monday was the slowest day, but even then it took 73-8-0 to secure the top prize. That was the weight recorded by Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) at peg 7 on the Chestnut. Keith Powell (OB Wolves) was over in the corner at the back of the island at peg 24 where 60-7-0 gave him the runner up spot, just ahead of Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) on 59-8-0 at peg 40.

The top three all beat the 100lbs mark on Wednesday when Mel Kitson (R&G) put together the best weight of the week, 140-8-0. He was on Ash peg 9 and worked pellet at 6 metres and close in for carp to 8lbs. Round at peg 14 on the same pool Tony Foster (OBW) had smaller samples of carp, with fish to 5lbs caught on shallow pellet, adding up to 118-6-0.

Peg 15 on the Hawthorn saw Nige Clarke (RAF Trabucco) net 114-12-0 for third, and Harry Colley (OBW) had 84-2-0 at Ash 3 for 4th.

Sport was a little slower on Thursday when the Oak and Chestnut pools were used, with the Oak providing the winner and the Chestnut the remaining three frame places.

Andy Williams (Vespe) the man on the Oak with top weight when a corn in the side approach at peg 18 had carp to 7lbs making their way to the net to give a total of 87-6-0 at the whistle.

Howard Williams (Weston Pools) was the first of the trio to frame on the Chestnut, having 66-8-0 at peg 38, fishing maggot and pellet at 6 metres and close in. Tony Foster was in the list again, taking third from peg 21 with 63-15-0, with Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) finishing things off by scaling 59-3-0 at peg 4.

Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) added another 26 points to his AT County Champs score with a win and a fourth at the week-end, his win coming on Saturday after he drew peg 16 on the Chestnut, and fished maggot to each side of the peg. Carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs responded to take the scales to 92-13-0.

Andy Bayliss-Kyte was on peg 3 on the Sycamore and offered maggot and pellet to fish shallow and into the corner to find carp to 7lbs for a level 79-0-0 to finish second. Third went to Jason Atwell (Kingswinford) at corner peg 40 on the Chestnut with a weight of 65-13-0 and Chestnut 24 was in the frame again when Jamie Langford (OBW) had 59-2-0 for 4th.

On Sunday it was the Sycamore which came up with the winner when Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) got off to a flying start at peg 30. His first fish was a double figure carp, which set him on the road to a top score of 121-4-0. Like Saturdays winner, Gareth fished maggot to each side of the peg.

Harry Colley (OBW) was only just short of 100lbs at Chestnut peg 4, where his meat and pellet based catch came to 99-13-0, and less than a pound behind him, on 98-15-0 was Nick Powell (OBW) at Chestnut 4. Steve Roberts collected his 4th with 96-8-0 at Chestnut 13.
