Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 27/4/10.

Ian Hughes (Shimano Wales) had a great start to the week when he took charge of the Monday open at Boldings Pools. Fishing pellet and caster, shallow, at peg 18 on the Beech Pool, Ian stormed to a near 100lbs advantage when he put 173-11-0 of carp to 8lbs on the scales.

Last Mondays winner Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) was round to the left of Hughes at peg 23, where he offered pellet at 5 metres and close in for carp to 6lbs, but couldn’t match the hot pace set by Hughes and finished second this time with 78-14-0. Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was to the right of the winner at 16, and while his 55-7-0 was more than respectable, it was mightily overshadowed.

The Ash Pool proved best on Wednesday when Andy Amos (Drennan NW) drew peg 5 and found carp to 5lbs with shallow pellet to register 77-1-0.

Almost opposite the winner Chris Holmes (BAS) also found the fish using shallow pellet, with samples to 6lbs adding up to 53-9-0 to give him second. Ian Hughes was on the Beech again, but the fish were not in the same feeding frenzy as they were on Monday, and 51-14-0 gave Ian a pool best and third place.

Andy Williams (Vespe) made the first of three frame appearances on Thursday when he claimed first at Sycamore peg 8. Corn and maggot fished to each side of the point had carp to 8 lbs coming to the net for 89-4-0.

At peg 25 Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) offered maggot at 5 metres and in the margins to tempt  carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs to scale 85-8-0. Ed Turner (OB Wolves) had a Chestnut best weight of 78-0-0 at peg 7 to pick up third and Carl Foster was a close 4th on 76-8-0 at Sycamore 13.

Martin Davenport (Dorset AC) is having a good run at various venues, and added a ton up winner to his list on Saturday when he drew in the corner at peg 50 on the Sycamore. Carp to 8lbs and bream to 4lbs took a liking to his pellet bait, fished close in, and martin put together a 119-10-0 net.

Andy Williams followed up his Thursday win with a second on this match when he put a Larch best of 80-4-0 on the scales at peg 1. His fish, carp to 7lbs, came to shallow maggot tactics. Back on the Sycamore, Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits)had 69-4-0 at peg 22 for third, and Steve Roberts was in the frame again with 54-10-0 at Sycamore 33.

On Sunday Pete Plant (Maver) was back on his favourite shallow caster method and claimed the coin from peg 18 on the Chestnut. Carp to 8lbs gave Pete 95-8-0 and first place.

Both point pegs on the Sycamore featured, with peg 13 giving Andy Williams his second runner up on the trot when he netted 91-12-0 using corn and pellet. Jamie Potts (OBW) was peg 8 and had 83-11-0 in third and an Oak best of 81-9-0 gave Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) 4th.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 20/4/10.

Weights at Boldings pools are reflecting the better weather, with plenty of big catches being recorded in this weeks opens at the complex.

Monday was the slowest day, but even then it took 73-8-0 to secure the top prize. That was the weight recorded by Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) at peg 7 on the Chestnut. Keith Powell (OB Wolves) was over in the corner at the back of the island at peg 24 where 60-7-0 gave him the runner up spot, just ahead of Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) on 59-8-0 at peg 40.

The top three all beat the 100lbs mark on Wednesday when Mel Kitson (R&G) put together the best weight of the week, 140-8-0. He was on Ash peg 9 and worked pellet at 6 metres and close in for carp to 8lbs. Round at peg 14 on the same pool Tony Foster (OBW) had smaller samples of carp, with fish to 5lbs caught on shallow pellet, adding up to 118-6-0.

Peg 15 on the Hawthorn saw Nige Clarke (RAF Trabucco) net 114-12-0 for third, and Harry Colley (OBW) had 84-2-0 at Ash 3 for 4th.

Sport was a little slower on Thursday when the Oak and Chestnut pools were used, with the Oak providing the winner and the Chestnut the remaining three frame places.

Andy Williams (Vespe) the man on the Oak with top weight when a corn in the side approach at peg 18 had carp to 7lbs making their way to the net to give a total of 87-6-0 at the whistle.

Howard Williams (Weston Pools) was the first of the trio to frame on the Chestnut, having 66-8-0 at peg 38, fishing maggot and pellet at 6 metres and close in. Tony Foster was in the list again, taking third from peg 21 with 63-15-0, with Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) finishing things off by scaling 59-3-0 at peg 4.

Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) added another 26 points to his AT County Champs score with a win and a fourth at the week-end, his win coming on Saturday after he drew peg 16 on the Chestnut, and fished maggot to each side of the peg. Carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs responded to take the scales to 92-13-0.

Andy Bayliss-Kyte was on peg 3 on the Sycamore and offered maggot and pellet to fish shallow and into the corner to find carp to 7lbs for a level 79-0-0 to finish second. Third went to Jason Atwell (Kingswinford) at corner peg 40 on the Chestnut with a weight of 65-13-0 and Chestnut 24 was in the frame again when Jamie Langford (OBW) had 59-2-0 for 4th.

On Sunday it was the Sycamore which came up with the winner when Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) got off to a flying start at peg 30. His first fish was a double figure carp, which set him on the road to a top score of 121-4-0. Like Saturdays winner, Gareth fished maggot to each side of the peg.

Harry Colley (OBW) was only just short of 100lbs at Chestnut peg 4, where his meat and pellet based catch came to 99-13-0, and less than a pound behind him, on 98-15-0 was Nick Powell (OBW) at Chestnut 4. Steve Roberts collected his 4th with 96-8-0 at Chestnut 13.
