BOLDINGS REPORT
The paddles were working overtime at Boldings Pools this week and kept parts of the pools clear, but with temperatures dipping below minus 6c, large areas had a covering of thick ice.
On Wednesday the Oak and Willow pools provided enough pegs for the open, and gave good close frame, with the Oak coming up with a winner for Richard Lawson (Maver). Richard fished to the stumps and at 6 metres at peg 27, offering pellet and maggot to tempt carp to 4lbs, and put together an admirable weight of 34-14-0 in the extreme cold.
The caster master, Pete Plant (Maver) abandoned his beloved ‘shells’ to fish maggot on a straight lead rig at Willows peg 5, a change which saw him claim second place overall with a Willows best 29-9-0, made up with carp to 3lbs. Willows pegs filled the remaining places, with Nige Clarke (RAF Trabucco) finishing only four ounces off second with 29-5-0 at peg 13 and Malcolm Marston (Baggeridge) picking up 4th thanks to 26-7-0 from peg 8.
Andy Price (Rod & Gun) finished a long way ahead of the field on Thursday after drawing peg 8 on the Middle Pool. Fishing at 8 metres and close in with pellet and maggot he picked off carp to 4lbs on his way to 32-8-0.
Matt Stobbs (R&G) had top weight on the Beech for second overall, his
Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) moved into top spot on Friday when the Stock and Willows pools were utilised. Sean was on peg 3 on the Stock and fished to the middle of the pool with pellet, finding carp to 3lbs at 14 metres to put
Richard Lawson added a second to his win earlier in the week, This time he had a Willows best of 25-0-0, which came to straight lead and maggot at peg 17.
Nige Clarke had another third when he scaled 19-13-0 at Willows peg 16 and Brian Clarke (Maver) completed the week with
