Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 26/1/10.

Things began a slow return towards normality this week, following the freeze up, but sport was generally slow, which was only to be expected given the temperature of the water.

They managed three matches at Boldings Pools, the first of which was staged on the Middle and Ash pools on Thursday, and proved to be the toughest test, but featured some decent roach.

Winner was Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) with a catch of carp to 3lbs and roach to a pound, which fell to maggot, fished at 6 metres from peg 3 on the Middle.

Runner up Tom Roberts (OB Wolves) also had roach to a pound at peg 9, on the opposite side of the Middle, and along with them he had carp to 2lbs, taken on maggot at 8 metres. Gary Morris (OBW) took an Ash Pool best of 21-8-0 from peg 14 to finish in third.

The week-end saw Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) score a double top, his first win coming from the Willows Pool on Saturday. Drawn on peg 5, he opted for a straight lead approach, alternated with the pole at 12 metres. Maggot was the successful bait again, with carp to 3lbs making up a total of 41-3-0.

Sam Rushton (Fox Tipton) found a nest of small carp in the corner at Sycamore peg 4, and picked off a lot of fish to 12ozs using maggot, to scale 34-1-0. Nige Clarke (Mosella) finished a pound behind second with 33-1-0 at Sycamore 49.

The top three weights on Sunday came from three different pools, with the Middle providing Steve with his second win. He was on peg 8, where maggot fished in the side and corn at 7 metres had carp to 4lbs coming to the net for 32-4-0.

Dave Hailey (OBW) had better fish, with samples to 5lbs at peg 16 on the Beech, where he offered pellet and maggot at 7metres and 12 metres, but he didn’t have enough to match the winner, finishing on 25-15-0. Ben Stamford (Mosella) headed the Deepdale card with 23-15-0 to take third and Sam Rushdon framed again with 22-14-0 for 4th at Beech peg 9.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 6/1/10

The paddles were working overtime at Boldings Pools this week and kept parts of the pools clear, but with temperatures dipping below minus 6c, large areas had a covering of thick ice.

On Wednesday the Oak and Willow pools provided enough pegs for the open, and gave good close frame, with the Oak coming up with a winner for Richard Lawson (Maver). Richard fished to the stumps and at 6 metres at peg 27, offering pellet and maggot to tempt carp to 4lbs, and put together an admirable weight of 34-14-0 in the extreme cold.

The caster master, Pete Plant (Maver) abandoned his beloved ‘shells’ to fish maggot on a straight lead rig at Willows peg 5, a change which saw him claim second place overall with a Willows best 29-9-0, made up with carp to 3lbs. Willows pegs filled the remaining places, with Nige Clarke (RAF Trabucco) finishing only four ounces off second with 29-5-0 at peg 13 and Malcolm Marston (Baggeridge) picking up 4th thanks to 26-7-0 from peg 8.

Andy Price (Rod & Gun) finished a long way ahead of the field on Thursday after drawing peg 8 on the Middle Pool. Fishing at 8 metres and close in with pellet and maggot he picked off carp to 4lbs on his way to 32-8-0.

Matt Stobbs (R&G) had top weight on the Beech for second overall, his 16-7-0 coming to maggot, fished mainly at 12 metres at peg 16. Back on the Middle, Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) scaled 15-1-0 at peg 3 for third.

Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) moved into top spot on Friday when the Stock and Willows pools were utilised. Sean was on peg 3 on the Stock and fished to the middle of the pool with pellet, finding carp to 3lbs at 14 metres to put 31-4-0 on the scales at the whistle.

Richard Lawson added a second to his win earlier in the week, This time he had a Willows best of 25-0-0, which came to straight lead and maggot at peg 17.

Nige Clarke had another third when he scaled 19-13-0 at Willows peg 16 and Brian Clarke (Maver) completed the week with 16-11-0 for 4th at Stock peg10.
